Guest: Jonathan Bennett: Advisor and Executive Coach In this episode, Jonathan will discuss how, when implementing major organizational changes such as mergers, leaders should be prepared for a full range of employee reactions–from denial, to excitement, to anger. For Jonathan, effective leadership through change properly acknowledges these emotions and engages in clear, frequent communication that explains both what will change and what will remain the same in the new organization. It’s a difficult time for many. Including the founders or owners or C Suite team–who are on their own emotional path of change. For some it’s the closing of a chapter, or the grief of letting go of something they nurtured for many years. For others, it’s a payday and a long-hoped-for ride into the sunset. Still others are about to work under a new regime. Knowing where each person is at, and why, is key for leaders at all levels. Join us as Jonathan unpacks this with stories and tactics grounded in his experience as a leader, founder who has exited, and sought-after executive coach. Jonathan Bennett is an advisor and executive coach for purpose-driven leaders who need help solving their organization’s toughest obstacles. With experience in urban, rural, remote, and First Nations communities, His coaching draws on 25 years of creativity and leadership success as a CEO, board member, and founder, and he is known for his deep-listening and his breakthrough solutions that create insights and new strategies. Guest: Dr Leandro Herrero: Chief Organisational Architect / Founder of The Chalfont Project, Author and International Speaker Even today, the focus on the exclusive power of leadership at the high ranks of the organisation prevails in the minds of employees, managers and leaders. We have collectively outsourced to them not just the responsibilities for visions and strategies but also role modelling, influence, authority and all sorts of powers. Middle management is just the middle man. The role of employees is to be engaged and have a voice. As caricatured as it may sound, the collective assumptions about workplaces are, consciously or not, well routed in this. But this emperor has no clothes. Dr. Leandro Herrero is the CEO of The Chalfont Project, a pioneering international firm of Organisational Architects specialising in large-scale behavioural and cultural transformation. Dr. Herrero, a psychiatrist by training and profession, is the founder of the ground-breaking methodology of Viral Change™. He has authored several influential books on mobilising change, including Viral Change™, Homo Imitans, and The Flipping Point. He bridges behavioural science with hands-on strategies to create lasting, real-world impact, his work has consistently shaped the landscape of leadership and organizational dynamics across sectors. Join us as we discuss the key to employee engagement and culture change. Read Dr Herrero's latest blog on Engage for Success website here. Listen Live (Archive Available) Host: Jo Moffatt…

Guest: James Scouller: Executive Coach and Author Did you know that research shows 75% of business teams fail? We struggle to form teams. Why do we find team building so hard? This question has driven James Scouller, an executive coach and celebrated author, throughout his 45-year career. Having led three international companies as CEO for 11 years, he founded The Scouller Partnership in 2004 – an executive coaching practice near London focused on growing leaders and building teams. James stands out in his field. Why? Because, unusually, he holds two postgraduate coaching qualifications, has undergone four years deep training in applied psychology (meaning he had to work on selfmastery), he’s had firsthand experience of the pressures of leadership, and written four books. James’s latest work is the trilogy, How To Build Winning Teams Again And Again. It’s the first series of handbooks to explain the psychology, action principles and roadmaps behind team success. Book #1 explains what you need to KNOW about teams and their psychology. Book #2 outlines what you need to DO to build teams that last. Book #3 explains HOW to apply Book #2’s models and tools in different scenarios. So the sequence is Theory – Practical – Applied. Guest: Graham Allcott: Author, Speaker and Entrepreneur Graham is the author of multiple books, including the global bestseller How to Be a Productivity Ninja. His latest book, KIND: The Quiet Power of Kindness at Work, focuses on why organisations with kinder, more human-centred cultures are ultimately more successful. He is the founder of Think Productive, which since 2009 has been a professional development go-to for a variety of companies, including Amazon, British Airways, Disney, eBay, the British Red Cross and many more – and with offices in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE and the Netherlands. It happens gently and quietly but leads to spectacular results. And it’s often thought that we have to choose between a kind working environment and a high-performing one. In the range of leadership skills, kindness is inherently quieter, more personal, harder to see – and yes, less interesting or cinematic than controversial tweets and ‘bullying boss’ behaviour. But the most successful leaders and organizations recognise that kindness builds empathy, trust and psychological safety, the cornerstones of so many desirable traits and outcomes in many businesses: more creativity; a better quality of decision-making; safer critical thinking; higher levels of staff loyalty, flexibility and retention; a heightened sense of engagement; and higher productivity and profitability. Guest: Steve Scanlon: Founder and CEO of Rewire The reason so many top leaders and executives turn to coaching is to effect change. They want different results, and know they need to act differently (and inspire their teams to act differently) to get them. But they are often unaware of the thoughts and feelings that lie beneath the surface, influencing their ability to make the necessary changes. Metacognition, then, becomes a powerful tool in this process, helping us to access, understand, and adjust what is happening below the line so we can change the actions we take to get the results we want. Steve Scanlon has dedicated over 30,000 hours to one-on-one coaching with business executives and other top performers, and has presented hundreds of workshops and keynote sessions to tens of thousands of people across the country. He is certified by the International Coaching Federation, has a certification in Interpersonal Neurobiology from the Mindsight Institute, and is a senior fellow at the Institute of Coaching. He is the founder and CEO of Rewire, a coaching and development company that helps companies, teams and individuals better understand how to make effective changes for radical improvement in their businesses and in their personal lives. Special Guest: Suzana Mihajlovic: Author of Your2Minds Suzana Mihajlovic is the founder of Your2Minds Pty Ltd. She is a multiple best selling author and elite level performance and success coach. Her expertise has been featured in many prestigious podcasts and business magazines and most recently in Times Square, New York. Suzana Mihajlovic has had a wide calibre of experience and expertise all of which distinguish her from the ordinary. She has been referred to by her clients as the “missing link between success and failure”. Professional Development can be an expensive investment for many organisations. Even though millions are spent every year on training and development, leaders often feel frustrated because even with the best training, often the return on the investment for professional development is not as great as anticipated. This is because staff will learn new skills in the training and professional development but their behaviour does not change leaving a large gap between knowing what they should be doing and actually doing it. The concept of self-image on performance has been studied for decades. It Is one of the most valuable mindset upgrades that any leader can implement. Basically, self-image is about creating the image of success – or an image that aligns with workplace performance – within each individual and as a team. By upgrading each individual’s self-image and then the overall team’s self-image to match corporate goals, staff are more likely to meet KPIs, to enjoy their work, and to make a positive contribution to the overall culture of the organisation. Special Guest: Alison Green: Director of WOMBA More than 80% of parents in the UK are in employment yet there’s remarkably little research. The research that has been conducted tends to disregard the experience and role of working dads – perhaps reinforcing the notion that this is a ‘woman’s issue’. We have started with a unique, binary gender equal piece of research to explore the perspectives of both working mums and working dads. The aim of our research is to help parents returning to work thrive – for the benefit of the organisation, the individual, their family and wider society. WOMBA (Work, Me and the Baby) is a specialist coaching practice, which provides practical and psychological support, for working parents. They help organisations build inclusive cultures, supports working parents as they manage their careers and upskills accredited coaches to add Diversity & Inclusion to their coaching practice. They have worked with organisations across the public and private sectors including Tesco, The Government Legal Department, Universal Music Group and AND Digital. Alison Green is one of the directors of WOMBA (Work, Me and the Baby) and is an experienced, Masters qualified, executive coach. Special Guest: Alex Eade: Marketing Manager at Footprint Digital Lifelong learning and keeping education at the core of everything we do is paramount to the team at Footprint Digital. Our industry, digital marketing, has often been seen as smoke and mirrors, with clients confused about what agencies are actually doing for them, and agencies using this confusion to their advantage. Footprint Digital was set up to be the antithesis to this, demystifying and humanising marketing to help clients make more confident decisions. As part of this attempt to spread information rather than gatekeep, we began lecturing to university students in 2015 and soon realised that there was a gap between the theory students learnt, and the practical understanding they’d need for a successful start to their career. We set up the Footprint Academy to help them with the skills they’d need in the real world. Alex Eade is the Marketing Manager at Footprint Digital, and after a master degree in Business Management, in 2016 she began her digital marketing career by joining the Footprint Academy. Since then she has managed content teams, developed new digital marketing products, worked in-house in branding, email marketing and CRM for a global restaurant group, and returned to Footprint Digital in 2020 where she set up an online course to complement the Footprint Academy.’ Join us as we discuss bridging the gap from academia to the real world. Special Guest: Josh Drean: Co-founder & Director of Employee Experience at The Work3 Institute Josh Drean is Co-founder & Director of Employee Experience at The Work3 Institute, Web3 Advisor at the Harvard Innovation Labs, and Co-author of Employment is Dead (Harvard Business Review Press, 2024) He is an HR Transformation and Metaverse expert who marries web3 technologies with workplace strategies. As Co-founder of The Work3 Institute, a research, and consulting agency focused on human-centric digital transformation, Josh’s aim is to help companies thrive in the rapidly changing world of work. Josh’s work has been featured in Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Fast Company, and The Economist. Josh earned his undergraduate degree in I/O psychology and a masters degree at Harvard University, where he incubated and sold an HR Tech startup pioneering sentiment analysis in real-time. To understand the impact of the Metaverse on the future of work, look no further than the current pains of the distributed workforce and observe the solutions a virtual world of work will provide. Realizing these possibilities will require an entirely new mentality. It’s not about the antiquated concepts of employee engagement or even designing a better employee experience, that’s like adding Ford Mustang car parts around a Model T chassis. The fundamental structure of work is outdated. We are clogging Industrial Age systems with Information Age speeds. The Metaverse and web3 technologies have the power to drive work forward new levels of productivity and growth by offering individual contributors greater ownership, flexibility, and agency over their work. Join us as we discuss how the current pains of employees are driving forward a new model for work that allows greater ownership, flexibility, and ownership over their work. The future of work is decentralization. Host: Jo Dodds…
Special Guest: David Liddle: The TCM Group At a time where the terms culture, climate and conflict are hot topics for every organisation, David Liddle will be examining these three areas through the lens of his 30 years work as a facilitator, a mediator, a coach, a leader and an accomplished author. Having completed a degree in race relations in the early nineties, David went on to set up one of the first specialist mediation and restorative justice organisations in the UK. For 7 years he pioneered the use of mediation and restorative practices for resolving intractable and often complex issues in communities, schools and between gangs. In 2001, having completed his MBA with distinction, David began to offer mediation and restorative practices to UK organisations. One of the first to do so, he quickly recognised that dialogue, compassion, empathy and engagement were far more effective at resolving issues at work than retribution, blame, shame, punishment and fear. His company, The TCM Group, has grown rapidly since those early days and David has created a unique ecosystem of services to organisations across the UK and beyond. His ground breaking and award winning Resolution FrameworkTM is being used to replace grievance and disciplinary procedures in organisations across the globe and his Transformational Culture ModelTM offers a blueprint for a purpose driven, values based and person centred workplace. David has been a longstanding supporter of E4S and he is president of the People and Culture Association (www.peopleprofessionals.org). He is the founder of International People and Culture Week which launches on 01st of May 2024. Special Guest: Simon Fanshawe: Co-Founder of Diversity by Design Simon will be exploring the value of diversity…not the clichéd version so many of are routinely subjected to in our work by so-called diversity experts, but rather the core of human difference that lies at the heart of it. We only talk about diversity and inclusion because we are different and we cannot understand each other. It is our attempts to do so, and our frequent clumsiness with each other, that makes this journey so interesting and vital. We learn from positions of ignorance, so we need to be able blunder and explore and deal well with the consequences to each other. Simon will attempt to rescue this work from the excluding jargon that has grown up around it and find ways to engage everyone’s differences in pursuit of our common goals at work. No rules, no lecture from the gays about what not to say. Just some tools and suggestions as to how we work best together, defeat discrimination and disadvantage for groups of people and how we can do it still laughing and causing each other as much joy as inevitable occasional upset. He co-founded and currently runs a consultancy business, Diversity by Design which supports organisations to truly diversify their senior people. His latest book “The Power of Difference” was published in December 2021 by Kogan Page. It was a finalist in both The Business Book Awards and the Chartered Management Institute Book of the Year Award. He is Number Two on HR Magazine’s Most Influential Thinker of 2022 list. He is married to Adam and they have no children or dogs. Join us as we discuss the value of diversity Listen Live (Archive Available) Host: Jo Moffatt…

Special Guest: Jane van Zyl: CEO of Working Families Working Families mission is to remove the barriers working parents and carers face in the workplace. They do this by empowering working parents and carers to understand and use their workplace rights, by supporting employers to create, build and sustain flexible and family friendly workplaces and by advocating for practical positive policy change. The majority of the employer members employ more than 250 people. Special Guest: Helen Beedham: Author of The Future of Time: How ‘re-working’ time can help you boost productivity, diversity and wellbeing Time is our most precious finite resource. So why does nearly every business fail to manage it strategically and value it appropriately? Our working time has speeded up, become highly fragmented, and blurred into non-working time. We squander it in meetings, decision-making, inefficient processes and our cult of busyness. We reward 24/7 availability, speed of response and hours worked rather than results. Rethinking our approach to how we manage working time can help us address the most pressing issues of the workplace: high stress and burnout; falling retention; stalling diversity. Individuals will flourish better in their careers and businesses will boost their bottom-line. It’s time for businesses to re-work time… Helen Beedham writes, speaks and advises on how to create more inclusive, productive workplaces where everyone can flourish. For the past 25 years, as management consultant then chair of a City-wide professional network, she has led change programmes for FTSE 100 businesses and regularly brought together Heads of HR, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing to exchange market-leading practices. Special Guest: Joe Caruso: Founder and President, Caruso Leadership Institute Joe Caruso is an expert on the individual mind, the collective mind of an organisation and how meaning drives our behaviour and determines outcomes in all aspects of life. As an author, business advisor and speaker, Joe brings his lifetime of expertise to help organisations and leaders change the way they see themselves — and in turn, the way they think about markets, products and services. Joe has learned this change in thinking drives new behaviour and allows organisations to sharpen focus and reach greater levels of success. After being diagnosed with an incurable cancer when he was 18, Joe committed whatever time he had left to spending five hours a day, five days per week, studying life. He wanted to identify what he now refers to as “Simple, Common, Timeless Human Truths.” In his quest, Joe felt compelled to answer a simple, yet difficult question before he was overcome by the cancer: What is the essence of a fulfilling, successful, and happy life? Joe became one of the first people ever cured of metastasized testicular cancer. With this gift, he decided he would continue his studies, and began to collect and analyse his findings on life. After beating cancer, Joe founded Caruso Leadership, a firm dedicated to helping others achieve their goals while enjoying the process. However, with 65% of employees saying that they don’t feel appreciated, and 75% of employees who quit their job citing a lack of recognition as the key driver, clearly something’s not working. Debra is on a mission to change this so every employee feels appreciated, not just a few. Where recognition occurs for all of the small things that matter and make a difference, and not just the big ones. Special Guest: Rajesh Kumar As firms enhance their global presence they are confronted with a myriad of differences, ranging from the legal and the regulatory to cultural differences. Each culture has a set of cherished values/beliefs on the basis of which they operate and in cross-cultural interaction a conflict may potentially emerge between different sets of values. Asian cultures, for example, have a collectivistic orientation, whereas North American/European cultures are individualistic in their essence. Differences in national culture can impact global teamwork, prove a hindrance to successful negotiations, and or prevent trust building. In our conversation, we will explore the different ways in which national culture impacts global business and the steps that companies can take to enhance their cross-cultural effectiveness. Dr Kumar is an expert in International Business Strategy and Cross-Cultural Management. Originally from India, Dr Kumar has lived and worked in the United States, U.K., Denmark, France, Finland, Netherlands, and New Zealand. We seem to have had our fair share of these, but these events are connected, while the symptoms are different the root cause is the same. The world and the expectations of individuals has changed. Individuals are voting with their feet and flipping from organisation to organisation looking for the promised land, while HR are facing challenge after challenge and are frankly getting burned out and fed up with the lack of support from any port and Managers are caught in the middle. He has taken his 30 years’ worth of experience in turning around business performance to create a fully automated, self-driven coaching platform to help businesses retain their best, unlock the rest and do most for less. Since the mid 90’s Paul has turned around many underperforming businesses including a franchise of a bank, insurance companies, charities and work within the education sector. Special Guest: Jeff Spahn: President of Leading Leaders Inc. Jeff Spahn is a pioneer in leadership forging a new, evolved theory and practice of leading that meets today’s challenges and opportunities. With more than 20 years at the helm of Leading Leaders Inc., Jeff has drawn on his hands-on research and business leadership expertise to develop a proven process that transforms complexity into innovation and optimal business outcomes. He inspires leaders to move beyond the industrial-age concept of collaboration (aka co-labor), reimagine traditional leadership hierarchies, and embrace an innovative process for leading and following at the same time, in the same action—a seismic shift designed for the unique demands of the digital age. Why is this evolution so critical? The industrial age was characterized by the individual inventor and mass labor, so prioritizing co-labor made sense. But in our disruptive digital age, more and more people must create and invent together, which requires a focus on co-creation. Though the term “collaboration” is often used in the context of leading high-performance teams, Jeff views it as antiquated language that represents the limits of our thinking and habits. Special Guest: Perinne Farque: Author of ‘Inclusion – The Ultimate Secret for an Organization’s Success’ Perrine Farque is an author, keynote speaker and inclusion and diversity expert. She spent her career empowering business leaders to leverage inclusion as their secret weapon. When she was working for Software and Technology vendors, she was often called “too aggressive” or “too emotional”, she was repeatedly looked over for promotions and pay rises, while her male counterparts were promoted to leadership positions all the time. When she realized that non-inclusive work environments are the main cause of employee turnover and disconnection, she made it her mission to create more inclusive workplaces. In her earlier career in Technology, she has witnessed, first-hand, how inclusive leaders build the most engaged, the most collaborative and the most innovative teams in the world. “Inclusion – The Ultimate Secret for an Organization’s Success” is about helping professionals become the inclusive and empowering leader they always wanted to become. Studies show that 85% of employees are not engaged in the workplace. Statistics and research show over and over again that having an inclusive workplace builds employee engagement, boosts creativity, and adds to the net bottom line. This book helps business leaders define the impact inclusion has on an organization’s performance. It also explains how anyone can create true inclusion in their workplace and shares who must be involved in creating an inclusive workplace. Special Guest: Elaine Bennett: Principal of BennettInk.com Engagement in a Hybrid World: If your employees aren’t engaged with their work, they won’t stay your employees for long. How do you create and sustain engagement when your workforce may be physically scattered? Communication is key—but it must be transparent, truthful, and tailor-made for your situation. Elaine Bennett’s name may sound familiar but she is an award-winning speechwriter and definitely not the lady from Seinfeld, whose last name was Benes. This Elaine is a strategic messaging consultant, advising clients from Fortune 50 CEOs to entrepreneurs on their messaging. She also creates and delivers trainings on how to improve the writing of everything from internal communications to speeches. Her 2019 TEDx Talk tackles the topic of how language can change the world. She began her career on Wall Street 25+ years ago, as speechwriter for the CEO of Salomon Brothers. When scandal forced the executive to resign, Warren Buffett stepped in as Interim CEO—and Elaine’s newest client. Mr. Buffett offered Elaine one of his highest compliments: “You have a terrific ear and you turn straight thinking into straight writing.” And that’s what she’s been doing ever since—melding the mind of a businessperson with the sensibility of an outsider to tell complex stories in a sophisticated but relatable way. Special Guest: Nic Marks: Happiness Expert, TED Speaker and Founder of Friday Pulse Introducing *Nic Marks*, statistician, author, TED speaker and founder of Friday Pulse. Nic specializes in using the science of wellbeing to help individuals, businesses, and governments to track happiness. Nic is a unique statistician with an unusual specialty – happiness. He has been working to create measures of people’s quality of life for the past three decades, with an emphasis on their emotional experience and happiness. Nic trained as a statistician, studying Mathematics, Economics and Management Studies at Cambridge University, and then completing his MSc at the University of Lancaster. Since then, he has been on a mission to measure wellbeing and create lasting, positive change. Most companies are great at measuring and tracking financial KPIs. Some have good process orientated KPIs. But very few have good people KPIs. They tend to either be snapshots in time – like an annual engagement survey. Or what can be called “lagging indicators” that only measure what has happened – like staff turnover. How would it be if you knew how every team was feeling every week? Team happiness is the best people metric to track. It predicts retention, productivity and innovation. Learn more about organisations that have been tracking happiness through the pandemic and how they weathered the waves of Covid better than most in the UK. Special Guest: Jake Jacobs: President of Jake Jacobs Consulting Frustrated that change efforts you’re leading take too long, are too difficult, or are too often ineffective? Discover eight powerful ways to make any change work faster, easier, and better—whether done by C-suite leaders or frontline workers. Organizations suffer from change fatigue. People are impatient and exhausted. They feel like too many initiatives are imposed from above or outside. They don’t have time for more change and often don’t even see the point in it. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a systematic way to achieve your desired results in less time with fewer problems and more success? There is. It’s called Leverage Change. These problems and more are resolved by what change expert Jake Jacobs calls Levers: smart, strategic actions that create huge leverage and impact. Whether you have an existing change effort that could be turbocharged or you’re launching one that’s new, the Levers can help. Apply a Lever—even without a formal program—and your organization will experience positive changes. These powerful Levers, which can be used alone or in any combination that works for you, are straightforward and easy to apply. Drawing on thirty-five years of experience, Jacobs includes dozens of stories of the Levers in action with all kinds of organizations, teams, and individuals. He also provides specific directions on how you can apply them to your change work. Use the Levers, and improve your change work more than you ever imagined possible. Their purpose is to promote listening to employees as an under-valued element in the communications mix, to challenge organisations to listen more and to provide practical tips and advice on how to listen well. We have published 3 reports now, the third of which is the write up of the global research. This is based on feedback from over 550 organisations – 57% in the UK. 5 key highlights include: A robust link between how well we listen to employees and how well we manage innovation, change, and the creation of a sense of fairnessLeaders are significantly more important than line managers when it comes to delivering the outcomes from listeningSurveys are by far the most dominant tool for listening while numerous other valuable approaches are used much more sporadicallyDigital listening in particular is overlooked and under-utilisedOrganisations think they listen better than they do. Special Guest: Andrew Bartlow: Co-Author of 'Scaling for Success: People Priorities for High Growth Organisations' After working with hundreds of start-up founders, Andrew has discovered that ego holds many of them from achieving true success. They often focus on irrelevant things that will make their company look good and forget about the most important foundational work. On the other hand, founders also want to meet (or exceed) the expectations – of customers, employees, end investors and that’s great. The challenge happens when they start comparing themselves to companies that are lightyears ahead of them. Andrew would love to share real stories, from the field, of working with founders 1-1 to help them overcome ego, prioritize better, and achieve success. Andrew Bartlow has 25 years of Human Resources and Talent Management experience at organizations across a wide spectrum of sizes, maturity stages, and industries. He is the co-author of 'Scaling for Success: People Priorities for High Growth Organizations', has a master’s degree from the top program in his field, and has been CECP, SPHR, Six Sigma, and executive coaching certified. Advantage Ensure Your Organization is Fair & Forward-Thinking as You Create an Unshakeable Culture of Trust and Prosperity, For Your Current and Future Employees. In an era where more leaders understand the value of DEI (Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion), most company cultures are still happening by default, instead of by DESIGN, which means your DEI initiatives will still get derailed by one critical factor. And companies rightly invest in technology and data solutions as a way to gain an advantage over their competitors. But disruption is more usefully seen as any force outside the control of the senior team that may affect the outcomes of its agreed strategy or the day-to-day running of the business. These forces often do not yield to the thinking, skills, aims, or activities that brought success in the past. A company must adapt if it is to thrive. In this podcast, Quentin Millington separates the challenge of non-stop disruption into elements that the senior team can talk about and actively manage. These include strategy, leadership, culture and practice, and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders. With a conscious approach to adaptation, companies can lessen the risks of a changing world and increase the value they create. A former Chief Operating Officer in investment banking, Quentin has worked with FTSE-100 and other multinationals to advance strategy, strengthen leadership, and enhance culture. He supports senior teams within complex organisations to deliver strategies that build resilience against disruption and create lasting value. Quentin’s past clients include Apple, Deutsche Bank, Informa, PwC, and UBS. Join us as we discuss what organisations can do to harness disruption in our fast-changing world. Special Guest: Alex Edmans: Author of “Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit” Purpose is one of the corporate buzzwords of 2020, with the politicians, the public, and even investors themselves calling on businesses to serve wider society. Is there a trade-off between purpose and profit, or is it possible for companies to achieve both? This podcast will critically examine the case for purposeful business, using rigorous evidence and real-life examples to show what works – and, importantly, what doesn’t. It will discuss practical ways for businesses of all sizes to put purpose into practice, and how investors and citizens can play their part. This ambition is a long-overdue acknowledgment of the importance of the employee voice. For Josh, the voice of the employee is the most important topic in business. Employees are the most “vested stakeholders” you have; when they have problems or good ideas, you really have to listen. In practice, this means regular structured management-team communications and all-hands meetings, complemented by regular listening, surveys, and feedback. And for firms looking to rebuild as we exit COVID, if you start looking like an unattractive employer, you're going to suffer serious impacts—on not just morale, but business reputation and recruitment. Her team is responsible for all aspects of external and internal engagement, as well as the digital communications strategy. Colleagues are part of the discussion, empowered to share information, and interact with leaders who are actively present on the platform. Redline has also made a significant difference during COVID-19, creating a sense of community virtually and keeping colleagues connected. Special Guest: Maria Paviour: Founder of Cari (Workplace Wellbeing & Performance Platform) & NeuChem Coaching Model The wellbeing at work data from before Covid showed that only 1/3 of us were healthy at work. Since Covid, 75% of people who are turning up at work are not well. Covid has made an existing problem much worse. So, what is the answer? Work was already making people ill, so we need to use the Wellbeing Economy Alliance’s concept and ‘build back better’. This discussion is to review how different organisations are finding ways to make the world a better and healthier place. We will discuss some key concepts behind improving overall business success by starting with having fully functioning humans. As a registered occupational psychologist and neuroscience specialist, Maria has always focused on wellbeing and performance at work. Over the past 25 years, she has combined this with her background in Human-Machine Interaction, in developing psycho-technology and in developing an AI software-as-a-service (AIaaS) wellbeing platform for HR. Maria strategically applies neuroscience in organisations to unlock human capability, achieve holistic goals and drive sustainability and social justice. She is also very passionate about supporting neurodiverse women, especially in STEM, and promoting the inclusivity agenda. Ultimately her goal is to work with organisations where she can help to change the narrative by putting wellbeing at the core of their culture so that it can maximise performance beyond best expectations in all domains, not just finance. Special Guests: Paul Miller and Shimrit James: Co-Authors of Nature of Work Your organisation is alive. It’s a living, breathing, adaptive, regenerative system. But for decades, maybe even centuries, organisations have been treated as though they are machines. From that mechanistic mindset, engaging employees will fail, time and again. Seen simply as ‘human resources’, addressing emergent threats and opportunities such as ‘The Great Resignation’, hybrid working and employee wellbeing will be an uphill struggle. Approaching these from a living systems mindset, however, means leaders can draw inspiration from and alignment with nature around areas such as purpose, biodiversity, relationships, migration and health. Paul Miller is a technology and social entrepreneur. He is CEO and Founder of Digital Workplace Group (DWG), rated by the Financial Times in 2020 as one of the UK’s leading management consultancies in digital transformation. His previous books include The Digital Renaissance of Work: Delivering digital workplaces fit for the future (co-authored with Elizabeth Marsh), which was shortlisted for the Management Book of the Year 2016 Award, and The Digital Workplace: How technology is liberating work. Shimrit Janes is Director of Knowledge for DWG, focused on curating knowledge on the digital workplace for its members and clients such as Adobe, The Coca-Cola Company, Ubisoft and UNHCR. She has worked with Paul and DWG colleagues on various initiatives, such as Digital Nations Group, as well as co-hosting the 24-hour global digital experience DWG24. PivotCX learned a huge lesson about business when COVID-19 hit and they lost 85% of their business in March 2020. The 15% of their business that survived was where they were engaging job applicants with a live person, right after they applied. So, they pivoted, and rebuilt their business on the proposition that every applicant, every candidate should get to talk to a live human, every time, within minutes of applying. They spent most of 2020 building new software, and a new way to recruit that puts candidate engagement front and centre. They built it by working closely with the interns that were doing live chat for their customers that stayed on board, and by listening carefully to their customers. In short the Pivot worked. The new software was launched in January 2021, and PivotCX grew 183% that year. This year, fueled by the great resignation, in January and February, they’ve already beat 2021. But… growth creates new challenges, and employee engagement has become crucial for them. They’re in growth mode where employees are challenged to “give their job away” every few weeks as they scale up. Special Guest: Lindsay Uittenbogaard, Director, Mirror Mirror Lindsay Uittenbogaard’s interest in Employee Communications led her to study the literature, take up various leadership positions in the field, and investigate ways to support a deeper level of shared understanding as relevant to performance. In response, she founded a data-driven approach called Mirror Mirror in 2016. An IABC-accredited Business Communicator, Lindsay studied Music, Journalism, and International Communication Management at postgraduate level, she is a certified member of the CIPD, the Reputation Institute, and is a published author in the Gower Handbook on Internal Communication. Research shows that more alignment between people in teams, about how they relate to the strategy and interact to deliver, improves effectiveness while reducing cost and risk. Alignment doesn't necessarily mean everyone has to think the same thing, or even agree with each other. Human alignment is when people with shared goals consider their options and commit to taking the best possible course of action together. This presents a huge area for opportunity for employee communication practitioners and their colleagues in related people & performance fields: empowering people at the local level to create a more meaningful shared understanding about their work to deliver together moves away from the all too common world of top-down / silo working, and moves towards relevant, effective and impactful strategy implementation. Special Guest: Nigel Girling, Senior Consultant, Inspirational Development Group and EFS TAGs Steering Group member For a decade, the Engagement movement has been beavering away. And yes, the dial has undoubtedly shifted. A little. Yet we still have thousands upon thousands of leaders who simply don’t get it… and other thousands working in roles to do with engagement who seem not to get it either. Engagement is not the point. What we want is better organisations doing better work with better outcomes to create a better world. Engagement is just part of that process. A key part, for sure, but not the whole story. Join us as we talk about how we can only transform our organisations and the working lives of people by transforming our leaders first. Nigel is, first & foremost, a strategic leader. He has served as a CEO in several organisations, in a number of sectors and including more than a decade at the helm of the National Centre for Strategic Leadership. But his has not been, shall we say, a traditional path to the ‘top’. Regularly suspended from school and a serial attendee at Wednesday night’s detentions, he was always seen as a disruptive influence. Ironically, the very capability on which he has built a career. School didn’t really work for Nigel. He wasn’t able to go to University (mostly because they wouldn’t have him) and so went off to be a musician – touring the realm and often the globe playing guitar in a number of rock bands. Long story short, many years later he ended up in the role of a strategic leader – and was very, very bad at it. A year or three of subsequent reflection and study helped him to understand some of the reasons why – and he was inspired to embark on a 25 year crusade to help others to become better leaders and avoid the same mistakes.…

Special Guest: Cath Bishop: Olympic medalist rower, former diplomat and business coach Dr Cath Bishop is an Olympic medalist rower, former diplomat and now works as a business coach and speaker and teaches on Executive Education programmes at the Judge Business School, Cambridge University. Tracing the obsession with winning through education, business, sport and politics, Cath identifies how a narrow, short-term view of winning – crossing the line first in a race, hitting your annual business targets, getting A grades at school – is holding us back engaging staff meaningfully with their work. The Long Win proposes a new approach to success based on the Three Cs: Clarity, Constant Learning and Connection. One of the most important keys to engagement is personality. Different personality types are motivated differently, communicate differently, and engage differently. Engagement is maximized when the purpose of the organization aligns with their unique motivational needs. There are three steps to do this. 3. Safe honesty vs. real honesty.
