This is a special episode with a story that we’ll be using soon in my other podcast, “Auditory Anthology” which comes out with new episodes every week (https://www.auditoryanthology.com). My partner at “Auditory Anthology”, Keith Conrad, curates stories from old sci-fi magazines, journals, books, and radio shows, and I voice the scripts. As much as I love old time radio, being able to tell these classic sci-fi stories from the 50s is a real treat for me. This story is one I actually heard many years ago on Old Time Radio, and the first time I heard it I absolutely fell in love with the story. So when I saw that Keith had sent me this one to narrate, I was beyond excited. The story is entitled “Prime Difference”, written by Alan Nourse. It was first published in Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine in June 1957. It’s dated of course, assuming android technology would be available in the late 1960s. Well it wasn’t – and it still isn’t just yet. But listen to this story and you tell me if you don’t think it’s prophetic, even if they did guess wrong on the year!
