I've never really shared this before...

But on a recent Podcast interview with Alex Manzi of the Dreamers Disease, I spoke openly about my previous need for 'status'.

A need that was purely driven from depression and my own insecurities.

From the outside in I looked happy, I looked successful, but my mind, stress levels and bank balance told a completely different story.

I was protecting my identity because I didn't want people to see how I felt inside.

18 months ago, I nearly lost my brother after he sustained a brain injury at work, just a few days after he was my best man at my wedding.

Weeks later, as he still lay there in a coma, I sat in the lounge in 'my' 5 bedroom rented house and thought..."From the outside it looks like I have everything, but in reality I have nothing".

If something happened to me, my family would be left with nothing.

I'm writing and sharing this because I hope a life changing moment to yourself or a close family member isn't the thing that makes you realise that materialistic items won't make you happy, if it's covering up how you're feeling.

But with my brother now home and recovering every single day, and with me now 'looking' less successful than I've ever been...

I can honestly say, happiness = success. Success doesn't equal happiness.

Hopefully you get some value from this episode, and as always don't forget to subscribe!

A rating and a review always helps a Podcast get more exposure too, so if you have a minute spare, I'd truly appreciate it!

Together, let's stand up to the stigma.
