What Do You Do When You Get Triggered?

It is possible to rewire your brain to deal with negative thoughts and triggers with deliberate action. Negativity bias is rooted in survival, but it messes with our day in our regular lives. One exercise is that next time you have a negative thought, replace it with a positive one for 15 seconds. Try something you are grateful for. Ponder on this for a full 15 seconds, and you will begin to retrain your brain. Second, ask clarifying questions to resolve the issues. These take training of the mind. Understand that when we are triggered, the primal part of our brain takes over. We are flooded with adrenaline. To counter that, we must find a way to activate the prefrontal cortex which will release dopamine, and this can be done with curiosity. The prefrontal cortex needs a question -- curiosity activates that. Ask why, be curious, understand how you can make changes, and you will begin to rework the neural pathways, gain awareness and make better decisions.
