Natasha tells Pat about putting in a reduced offer for Kirsty’s house on Beechwood, because of the risk that the sewage problem might happen again. Pat wonders, if they’re so worried about a recurrence then why risk it at all? Natasha insists they’re going ahead with the offer, before asking if things are okay between Pat and Tony? Pat insists they are, then mentions her upcoming radio interview. At The Tearoom later though, disappointed Pat tells Emma that Radio Borsetshire cancelled her interview. Pat’s determined to get the message out somehow, about the damaging effect the spillage is having on people’s livelihoods. At the very least they need to call out Borsetshire Water publicly and force them to respond. Kirsty tells Joy about the pressure she feels under to accept pushy Tom and Natasha’s reduced offer. Joy encourages Kirsty to make them wait for an answer, especially as they’ll be getting brand new flooring and units. Later, Natasha tries guilt-tripping gobsmacked Kirsty into accepting the offer. Kirsty gives as good as she gets, but Natasha’s not budging. If Kirsty won’t accept the new offer then they’ll look for another house instead. At The Dower House Joy confronts Lilian with the evidence of the broken robot vacuum cleaner, making it clear that she and Brian are going to have to pay for a replacement. Looking online they see it’s one of the most expensive models. Lilian tries to slide out of it, blaming Brian, but Joy assures Lilian that they’ll have the Gills to answer to if they don’t stump up.…

Standing outside the Shop Pat and Kirsty catch up about the ongoing effects of the sewage spill. Pat’s looking for more testimonials to add to their social media page, plus getting the petition more widely disseminated. Inside the Shop Kirsty tells Joy how much trying to sell her house is getting her down. She’s frustrated with Tom and Natasha, who seem to be holding up the sale deliberately. Then Lilian enters and confesses to snooping around outside Home Farm because she wanted to see what the owners had done to it. Lilian buys Joy and Mick an expensive bottle of wine to compensate for disturbing them. In return Joy offers to let Lilian look around inside the house while Mick is away. Can Brian come too, Lilian wonders? Later, Brian and Lilian agree sadly that there is virtually nothing of Jenny’s influence left in the Home Farm kitchen: it used to be her pride and joy. They are scathing about the Gills turning the house into an investment property. Lilian then finds gloomy Brian sitting in a favourite old haunt. He accidentally breaks a robot vacuum cleaner and they decide it’s time to get out of there. When Pat returns to Bridge Farm Tony’s grumpy with her for spending too much time campaigning and not enough time supporting staff in their struggling business. Tony despairs that nothing Pat or anyone else does will affect what Borsetshire Water do, but Pat disagrees. In a throwback to her younger days Pat thinks this could finally be her chance to make a difference.…

At the Tearoom, before the pancake eating competition starts, Zainab tells relieved Akram she was never going to take a job at The Bull. Brad meanwhile isn’t feeling great, following his starvation diet. Natasha introduces Zainab and Brad in boxing-match style with ridiculous nicknames, but then Brad collapses to the floor. Later, while embarrassed Brad recovers, Natasha desperately tries to find a replacement, but it doesn’t look promising. Before setting off in the Riley Jazzer confesses how anxious he is about going to this posh restaurant. Tracy susses he’s more upset about not going to the pancake event, but she’s not changing her mind. However, Tracy then gets a call telling her what’s happened to Brad. By the time Tracy and Jazzer reach The Tearoom people have started drifting away. Tracy insists on taking Brad off to feed him up – she’s already cancelled the meal with Susan and Neil. Seeing Natasha’s desperation Jazzer offers to take Brad’s place, but quickly changes his mind when he sees Tracy’s face. With a load of uneaten pancakes left on her hands Natasha has no choice but to offer them free to all comers. Back at Ambridge Hall Akram cajoles Zainab into making up with Azra, instead of fighting all the time. Zainab feels bad about the books and photos that were ruined by the sewage, but Adil has found replacements for some of the photographs at least, which Akram has brought back with him. When asked about moving back to Solihull Zainab admits she’d like to give Ambridge a try for a little longer yet.…

At No.6 The Green Jazzer moans to Brad about the posh dinner Tracy’s making him go to with Susan and Neil. But Brad has other things on his mind, including the pancake eating competition. Jazzer would far rather go to that, but Tracy refuses to change their dinner date to let him do both. Brad then tells jealous Jazzer he’ll fast before the competition to make sure he beats Zainab. The prize is as good as his. Akram fills Azra in on how Adil is doing in Pakistan, then outlines some ideas to get his business up and running. They share happy memories of biking together, before Azra shocks him with news about Zainab wanting to work in a pub. Later, they consider the idea of moving back to Solihull, amongst old friends. Azra confesses that, despite the sewage spill, they feel settled in Ambridge. She thinks Akram might grow to like it there too. Despite Emma’s best efforts the Tearoom has been dead all day. Both Pat and Emma hope Natasha’s punt on getting customers back with the pancake competition works. Pat’s frustrated that not many people have signed her petition about the sewage overspill. Emma suggests drumming up a bigger response with a media blitz. Later, Emma shows Pat the work she’s been doing online to publicise the petition, using photos of damage at Bridge Farm and adding links to the Borsetshire Clean Water Action Group. Even better, Emma then gets an invite for an interview on Radio Borsetshire – at last, an opportunity for their voices to be heard!…

Whilst preparing the meal at Ambridge Hall for breaking their fast, Azra disapproves of Zainab applying to work at The Bull, a pub. Lynda admits how tricky she’s found the fasting, but Azra appreciates the effort Lynda is making to share their experience. Azra then queries Zainab taking part in the Tearoom’s pancake eating competition on Tuesday. An eating competition is not really in the spirit of Ramadan, even if it doesn’t start until after sunset. Zainab talks Azra round, claiming she’s doing it to help their neighbours, who have put themselves out to accommodate her . Besides, Azra is over-catering with this meal, so what’s the difference? On a walk with Monty, after nipping into The Bull, Lynda tells Khalil how sorely tempted she was by Fallon’s brownies. Khalil extols mind over matter, before they compare and contrast Lent with Ramadan, coming to the conclusion that they are both testing in their different ways. Later, as they prepare to break their fast, the Maliks explain the meaning of the Arabic prayers they recite, when the doorbell rings. It’s Akram, Azra’s husband, who has finally come home. Zainab and Khalil are thrilled at the lovely surprise, while Azra admits she kept his return secret so as not to spoil it for them. Akram gives Lynda some traditional presents from Adil for her and Robert. Azra then takes Akram to see the house on Beechwood, but they can’t stay long because of the smell. It will take ages before they can move back in, but at least they do have another option.…

Lynda tries to persuade Tom to step down as cricket captain. He soon rumbles her, and Lynda admits Freddie’s come forward. She’s been so busy her wires have crossed and now she’s in a tricky position. Tom’s relaxed, suggesting they have two captains. Lynda’s not at all sure it’s a good idea, but Freddie’s on board. He’d be flattered to share the position with experienced Tom. When they get down to business Tom makes no bones about the fact they need to cut some dead wood from the team now they’ve gone up a division. When uncomfortable Lynda suggests they discuss some of the administrative duties, Tom gives himself the hands-on role, leaving the paperwork side to Freddie. Lynda prefers them to share this workload, but Tom’s discouraged when he sees the size of the risk assessment. Tracy spots Fallon’s distracted. Fallon admits she feels she’s stealing custom from Natasha. She wonders if she should speak to her, and later bites the bullet. To her surprise Natasha is full of sympathy for her, declaring she must be disappointed not to be able to fulfil her dream of a café at the EV charging station. She understands why Fallon feels bitter. Fallon protests, but Natasha thanks her for popping by and sweeps on. Fallon’s flabbergasted at Natasha’s entitled attitude. Tracy reckons the Tearoom took advantage of Fallon. Fallon agrees. If the Tearoom fails, so be it. She’s taking the shackles off. From now on she’s going to look after number one.…

Azra’s organising food and her children indulge in some low level bickering. Khalil doesn’t understand why he still can’t participate fully in Ramadan. He leaves to take Monty for a walk. Lynda feels for him. Zainab tries to cheer Khalil with the news that the insurance will cover their damaged tech items. Khalil can’t get past being excluded from fasting. Zainab assures him they’re all just looking out for him. Khalil comments that at least at his new school he’s treated like everyone else. Azra bumps into Justin and the subject of the sewage leak comes up. Justin sympathises. Azra mentions Robert’s emailed him on the subject, to see if he can help. Justin reckons there’s not much he can do. The liability lies with Borsetshire Water, not Damara as the developers of Beechwood. He suggests it’s up to the whole community to get together and persuade the water company to improve the infrastructure. Lynda has a dilemma – Freddie’s volunteered as cricket captain and she’d just secured Tom. Robert suggests she retracts the offer to Tom. Lynda will sleep on it. Concerned for Khalil, Lynda suggests she and Robert stop fasting. Azra feels it will make no difference. She confides that Khalil had leukaemia when he was younger, and it’s her need to protect her son that’s frustrating him. She knows she’s denying him his independence, but she can’t let go of her image of the fragile little boy he was.…

Things aren’t getting any better for Natasha as she worries to Joy about both the Beechwood house and the lack of returning business at the Tearoom. She’s missing Fallon keenly. She can’t help thinking that if she was there, they’d get more support. Joy’s not so sure about that; and it’s not like Natasha could have done anything differently. Natasha thanks Joy for the chat. Zainab bumps into Brad and asks if they can talk. After some initial awkwardness they agree they can’t avoid one another forever. They talk about the last time they met up; Zainab comments it’s actually a good idea to ask someone out early on. Brad thanks her for being nice about Chelsea’s previous matchmaking efforts. Both are happy to move on. Natasha approaches and Brad tries to escape but is forced by Zainab into admitting he can’t do the Tearoom promotional videos due to his workload. Zainab sweetens the pill by volunteering them both for the pancake eating contest. Natasha’s delighted. At the Bull Joy mentions her trampled flowerbeds to Lilian, wondering if she saw anyone else hanging about yesterday. Guilty Lilian offers her lunch on the house. Natasha’s amused as Fallon sees off some customers who were deriding the Tearoom. Lilian raises an eyebrow at Fallon’s attitude but Natasha declares it’s cheered her up. However her mood changes once she realises the Bull’s doing breakfasts. She hopes they’re not trying to take advantage of the Tearoom’s downturn. Fallon reassures her, but Natasha knows what she’s seeing. Miffed, Natasha leaves.…

Kirsty still hasn’t heard from Tom and Natasha about the house sale. Lilian ventures that their hesitation’s understandable given the sewage spill incident. Joy suggests giving them a nudge. Lilian’s intrigued to discover Joy and Mick are currently residing at Home Farm. Later she pays Joy a visit, taking Justin with her, on the pretext that she’s interested in an item in the garden. To Justin’s horror she’s soon asking if she might come in and see the Gills’ kitchen while she’s here. Joy cites the no visitors rule and relieved Justin readily complies. Lilian won’t be discouraged however, and pokes around the garden trying to get a view inside the house, setting off some garden sprinklers in the process. Natasha presents busy Tom with a single fairy cake with a candle for his birthday. Tom’s touched; he’ll eat it on his rounds. Natasha suggests some video promotion for their Pancake Day event. Emma agrees to ask Brad to do them. Later Tom and Natasha meet Kirsty. They tell her they need to get another drain survey done – the sewage situation changes everything. Moreover, they think Kirsty should pay for it. They can’t give her an answer on whether they’re buying until it’s done. Emma finds Natasha poring over some negative social media. With this and their rapidly reducing income, things are getting on top of her. Emma counsels the importance of keeping focus and tries to get Natasha back on track with Pancake Day. Buoyed by this, Natasha agrees and they start to work on a plan.…

Freddie’s spotted an opportunity he thinks might appeal to Vince for Casey Meats. It involves working with an academy trust to supply locally sourced produce to schools for their meals. After some persuasion Vince sees the benefits and agrees to Freddie getting the ball rolling, starting with inviting trustees for a tour of the abattoir. Stressed Fallon’s struggling on a particularly busy evening at the Bull. Diners Robert and Lynda discuss Ramadan. Robert supports Lynda’s plan to fast but is taken aback when she assumes he’ll be joining her. Tracy’s eager to know from Lynda who’s going to replace Harrison as cricket captain. She reckons she could convince Chris to reconsider, but Lynda declines her offer. Spurred on by Tracy, Freddie shares with Lynda his own tips for what makes a good captain. Vince is impressed – Freddie should go for the captaincy himself. He’s a natural at building team morale – a talented bloke in fact. Freddie’s touched. Robert compliments Fallon on her food. He shares that the quality at the Tearoom has suffered since she left. Fallon genuinely worries about how they’re coping. She doesn’t like to see the Tearoom losing custom, but is sure Natasha will have a solution. Tracy’s less sympathetic; Chelsea’s being made to work silly hours, and Fallon was treated badly by Natasha and Tom. She thinks Fallon should capitalise and open up the Bull earlier for food. Fallon reckons that sounds a bit cut throat, but Tracy retorts she should strike while the iron’s hot.…

Frustrated Natasha thinks Emma’s wasting her time pursuing the water company when she should be focusing her efforts increasing footfall at the Tearoom. Later she apologises for being snippy, admitting she’s worried. They’re losing money and it’s demoralising. She’s pleased to see Kirsty, joking she’s at least one paying customer. Kirsty wonders whether Natasha and Tom have had a chance to progress the house purchase. Natasha promises they’ll all sit down together soon. Her priority currently is getting the business back on a firm footing. Emma suggests a Pancake Day initiative, and after some debate they settle on a pancake eating contest. What have they got to lose? Azra confides to Lynda there’s no chance they’ll be back in their own house in time for Ramadan – the house smells and the utility room is still damp. Kirsty reports she’s got a professional company in to clean her house. They’re doing a complete refit. She can’t afford to wait, she just needs the house sold. Later Azra explains to interested Lynda how she manages her and the family’s fasting arrangements, admitting that this year will be particularly challenging with all the stress of the house. Lynda suggests contacting Justin to see if he can advise on who should take responsibility for the sewage issues. Meanwhile she offers Azra the use of her kitchen as much as she needs it – she and Robert will work round her. In a moment of inspiration Lynda offers to fast alongside Azra so that they’re synchronised.…

Emma congratulates Fallon on her new permanent role at the Bull. Kicking her heels on a day off, Fallon admits to Joy that it’s hard to relax with Harrison away. Joy invites her over to the Gills’. Later as they enjoy wine, nibbles and playing with the various fancy gadgets at Home Farm, Fallon wonders what Brian would make of the Gills’ refurb of his old home. Mick returns and immediately sends Fallon away, insisting to embarrassed and annoyed Joy that no guests are permitted. However he goes some way towards making up for his brusqueness when he reveals there’s a sauna he and Joy can enjoy. Pat’s stressed trying to get through to Borsetshire Water. Whilst Emma still has a role as parish councillor, she offers to help. Emma gets on with some online research for Pat, and finds details of the The Borsetshire Clean Water Action Group and other paperwork. Pat thanks her for her excellent work, and Emma promises to keep digging. Pat’s impressed when Emma reports she’s managed to contact someone via the water company’s press office, though she’s been brushed off. Pat thinks radical action is needed, but she counsels Emma not to get too involved given her precarious position on the parish council. However Emma is adamant, and feels she owes Pat after she wrote the reference for George. She also needs something to make her feel powerful. Pat concedes the point; she’s always regretted holding back in the past and this time nothing’s going to stop her.…

Robert is taking Khalil out to reward him for spotting Constanza the llama’s injury, and he has high hopes for a great day out. Zainab tags along to the annoyance of her younger brother. They arrive at Arkwright Lake and both are disappointed to find that the treat is birdwatching at the hide. Khalil particularly is unimpressed, and cold. He loves animals close up, but not birds at a distance. Zainab, however, gets more drawn in and enjoys herself. Robert says they’re welcome to visit any time. Zainab admits that this won’t be often, but doesn’t rule out another visit. Jolene reports to Kenton that Wayne has been offered a regular guitar gig at a bar in Panama, which he visited when docked on the cruise. The two of them offer Fallon her dad’s job on a permanent basis, but Fallon feels she needs to think it over. Kenton realises that Fallon’s been hit with the news that her dad is moving to the other side of the world, and also that working in the kitchen of The Bull might well not be her dream. He talks to her again and offers more incentives; she’d be part of the management team and one day could possibly buy into the business. This is food for thought, and Fallon agrees to call Harrison to discuss it. Later, she has great news for her mum and Kenton – she’d love to accept. They celebrate their new partnership.…
