Welcome back to the Speaking Our Minds Podcast with Brittney Moses and Ranela Kaligithi!

In this episode, we're talking all about being culturally competent humans. As we continue on the topic of how to be better humans in a polarized culture, part of un-polarizing things is seeing the fullness of other humans and ourselves, including all of the facets that make up who we are and thus shape the way we see the world which is gonna vary from person to person because of our different cultural upbringings.

  • Cultural Intersectionality
  • How ethnocentrism can lead to a superiority complex
  • The Doctrine of Discovery's Impact on Christianity vs. practicing a culturally sensitive faith in a diverse world
  • The layers of cultural influences that affect us and our mental health (microsystems, mesosystems, macrosystems)
  • The importance of cultural humility.

When we take down the walls of separation, allow people to have value for simply BEING, and celebrate people as they are — we are doing something so powerful for ourselves: we’re learning how to accept ourselves just as we are too.
