Alison is joining me again and today, we’re talking about the American education system, why it’s not working, and what we can expect for the future of our students.

Until sixth grade, I attended a Montessori school that nurtured my natural desire for knowledge and curiosity. After that, I went to public school and the focus became getting straight A’s, passing standardized tests, and getting into college. That was in the 1970s, and nothing has changed for today’s students.

In this episode, we discuss how children need to be nourished holistically, with an emphasis on their passions, how teachers need to be re-engaged and supported, and how this change can only come from our society and government as a whole.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you’ll find in this episode:

How the American education system has evolved

How COVID and school shootings have given rise to more forms of alternate education

Why there’s an exodus of good teachers from the public school system

Why interest-led learning and life skills should be prioritized

The distinction between wisdom and knowledge
