It’s not a lot a little, it’s a little a lot.

I was on a leadership call two weeks ago and I hear the phrase:
“It’s not a lot a little, it’s a little a lot”.
And, that is a lot to hear for my brain. I was confused and to process it a bit. Maybe like you. It’s a simple phrase that plays with our brains. I’ve searched for the origin of the quote and can’t find it word for word. It does point to a Tanzanian proverb “little by little, a little becomes a lot” that conveys the idea that small actions can lead to big results.
Rhythm. Cadence. Beat. Pace. Habits.
And in the financial world… compound interest. A little investment starts to snowball into great amounts. Just ask google or chatGPT to show you an example of TIME over AMOUNT with normal 5-7% interest and you’ll see the power of compound interest. You’ll see that It’s not a lot a little, it’s a little a lot.
If you’re life was a compound interest chart, where are you investing a little every day? This can go in both the positive and negative way.
Here’s a great example. My company does these huge post construction cleans. It’s a lot of money and a lot of work all at once. It is quiet a chore to accomplish a massive building clean with a day or two notice. These don’t pop up every week, so hiring for them is super difficult. We can’t keep our people busy and then all of a sudden need to to drop everything to work 48 hours straight. It is not a smart sustainable model. This is why we make sure we wash windows and clean offices. This is the sustainable and consistent work. Sure, it’s nice getting huge bumps in revenue after the post construction clean jobs, it just makes it hard to pull off. It’s not a lot a little, it’s a little a lot.
So today. Hit the gym. Focus on your success plan. Eat that carrot. Read that book. Do the small things that lead to big results. And if in your day you notice that you’re doing something that over time wont lead to good results… the good news is that that small thing should be pretty easy to stop doing! Let’s put our efforts into the small things that will make our future self smile!
