By recalling what the Lord has delivered you from it reminds your heart what to be thankful for. Thankfulness and gratitude are things that live in the heart of every person who is a follower of Jesus because within their heart is a river of thankfulness flowing out to the Lord because of all the things He has delivered us from.
If you ever feel like your faith is weak, lifeless and mundane it probably correlates to your remembrance of how the Lord liberated you. The key to following the Lord is looking ahead to the Freedom that Jesus has provided us while also looking back at the cages that he set us free from. It's a great dance of thankfulness and remembering how far the Lord has brought us.
