Continuing with our NEW series called "The Servant King," (A Study of the Gospel of Mark).... I'm sure that you've heard the old cliche, "Once forgiven, always forgiven." Did you know that this is not necessarily true. If I may, I would like to explain... Before we are saved, we live a life that is full of sin. Then, all of a sudden, we begin to feel a change within our hearts (in case you can relate, it feels like we are not satisfied with the life that we have been living). That's when we begin to wonder if Jesus is "knocking on our heart's door, asking to come in." (Spoiler alert...that's exactly what is happening at this point). Little by little, we start to desire to hear and study the word of God, it becomes interesting like it never had before. Then we begin to go to church, listen to the pastor speak the word of God, and our hearts feel convicted because we know that we have been living a sinful life. So we ask God to come in to our hearts and become saved. As you might already know, when we become saved, this means that we have now started a relationship with Jesus, which needs to be nurtured. Through study of the word of God, we learn that because of what Jesus did on the cross, our sins have been forgiven. We also learn that the spirit and the flesh are not always in "tune" with each other. Because, the Holy Spirit now resides within our hearts, we want to do the right thing, but because our flesh is worldly, our bodies desire to do worldly things. This is where we have to really think about our future actions because most of our desires are of a sinful nature, actions that are not in accordance to God's word. Since we tend to be creatures of habit, we sometimes "accidentally" fall into sin only to realize later what we did. But we needn't worry...God has promised us that our sins are forgiven. But if we desire to sin on purpose, knowing exactly what we are doing, all while thinking, "Well, Jesus is going to forgive me anyway...," are we really still forgiven? Does God forgive these kinds of sins? Well, you'll have to tune in to today's teaching, here on this podcast, and listen to Pastor Ben as he answers these questions and more in today's beautiful teaching.
