In a recent tweet, Elon Musk has predicted a severe recession in 2023, saying that the US Federal Reserve's actions are amplifying the probability of one. Musk's comments come days after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos warned of an impending recession, and echo those of NorthmanTrader founder Sven Henrich, who also believes the Fed is to blame. The Fed has raised rates rapidly this year in an attempt to quash inflation, which is currently running at more than three times the central bank's target. Fed officials have said they expect smaller rate increases in the future, but Bullard says the Fed needs to be more aggressive in order to reduce inflation. Powell is set to address the public on the US economic outlook Wednesday afternoon.
