She is the founder of the Dahlia Project, a specialist psychotherapeutic and counseling service for survivors of FGM, and Magool, an organization promoting the rights and well-being of women and girls. Leyla is very experienced in providing safeguarding training to activists, well-being professionals, and others who confront the physical, psychological, and social implications of violence in their work. In 2020, Leyla co-founded Safe Spaces for Black Women alongside Fatima Hagi to create an emotional support and well-being community for Black women worldwide.
Leyla's work has been presented at Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Leeds, Exeter, and many Ivy League universities across the US.
