Sands of time: Reliving an Omani paradise-with Neena Nandigam (Oman)
Manage episode 379756135 series 3448366
Hi everyone,
Please welcome with me Neena Nandigam. Neena was born in Oman, a country in the Middle East and lived there with her family until she was 8 years old. Her parents are originally from India and made the decision to move to Oman to then make another big move to New Zealand. Neena is living in New Zealand ever since.
In this episode Neena is talking about the great country Oman and about her dearest childhood memories. She is telling us all about her experience of growing up in Oman as an immigrant child and how she always felt like she belongs which changed dramatically once she came to New Zealand.
We also talk about the reasons of the move from India to Oman and then the move to New Zealand and what challenges where waiting for them.
We touch on the relationship between Neena and her younger sister who was born and raised in New Zealand and how growing up in different countries has a big impact on the person you become.
The topic of the "In-betweens" is coming up again and how a sense of belonging and community is always going to be an important part of the life of an immigrant.
