Virtual Field Trips - What are virtual field trips? An outstanding way to bring the world to your class when you can’t take your class to the world. How have you used virtual field trips in the past? Erin - They can integrate various subjects for a great project based learning activity. 6th graders were studying Ancient Greece, so I have them go to a series of tourist websites in Greece that offered virtual tours as a way to encourage people to book their vacations through their company. There is a great resource called Learn Around the World. There are scheduled virtual field trips that you can join. We have participated in visiting Abe Lincoln’s home as well as explored Mayan temples in Tulum and Tikal. All you need is a web connection and a webcam. I love virtual field trips because they generally are free, don’t require extensive paperwork, and allow you to bring your students around the world in a short amount of time.
