Dr. Douglas V. Porpora is a professor of sociology in the Department of Culture and Communication at Drexel University. His books include How Holocausts Happen: The United States in Central America, Landscapes of the Soul: The Loss of Moral Meaning in American Life, Post-Ethical Society: The Iraq War, Abu Ghraib, and the Moral Failure of the Secular, and Reconstructing Sociology: The Critical Realist Approach. Dr. Douglas Porpora is a very interdisciplinary scholar who, in addition to sociology, has also published in philosophy. His research interests range widely, but in communication, he is generally interested in how people converse and argue, especially politically and morally. Dr. Porpora’s ultimate concerns are with people’s larger meanings and values and how these intersect with politics and matters of social justice.
