Pain is a must. And it’s not just in fitness. Think about the entrepreneur who sets out to start a business. Working nine to five is manageable, even easy for some. But what happens when 6 o’clock comes around, then 10 o’clock, and then midnight. Are you fighting through the fatigue? Are you ignoring the urge to watch your favorite primetime TV show? It’s understandable that maybe family circumstances or situations may not allow you to work very long hours all at one time. But are you taking shorter lunch breaks? Are you putting in a couple of extra hours after the kids are in bed? Are you putting down the remote and picking up a book? Yes, it’s going to be painful at first, but just like working out, the more you follow through with it, the more you’ll be able to bear. But you must learn to embrace the pain and push through it.

Motivational speaker and author Jim Rohn says, “We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.”

It’s the pain of discipline that separates champions from the average person. It’s their understanding that if they can motivate themselves to do what they don’t want to do, they can become the person they want to become. They understand that there’s no free lunch, no short cuts, no magic pill.

There’s pain. And without pain there can be no growth.Maybe you’ve heard of Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken.” Paraphrased, it simply says that there are two roads and one is less traveled. It points out that unfortunately most people choose to take the well-worn, familiar road rather than the seemingly more difficult, less traveled road. Champions always take the less traveled road and they understand that pain is a necessary part of that road. To be a great champion it’s going to be difficult. It’s going to be painful
