Williams is an Associate Professor of History in the Department of History and Anthropology at Monmouth University. Dr. Griffin is inaugural chair of the African American and African Diaspora Studies Department at Columbia University where she is also the William B. Ransford Professor of English and Comparative Literature. She is also the author of several books and a 2021 Guggenheim Fellow. Griffin's book Read Until You Understand: The Profound Wisdom of Black Life and Literature (W.W. Norton, 2021) is the main focus of this conversation.
