Everyone has a dream. But sometimes there’s a gap between where we are and where we want to be. True, there are some people who can bridge that gap easily, on their own, but all of us need a little help at some point. A little boost. An accountability partner. A Snooze Squad. Do you remember the story of the three little pigs? Once upon a time there were three little pigs. The first pig built his house from straw. The second pig built his house from wood. The third pig built his house from brick. Each felt that they were safe because of the shelter they had built. A wolf looking for a meal tested their domiciles by attempting to blow each down. The straw and wood houses toppled without any resistance. However, the brick house remained steadfast. The moral of this children’s tale is about having both a sturdy foundation and sound material when building anything from the physical to the metaphysical. Most of the stories you read as a child had a moral. They were written with cute little animals or fantastical kingdoms in order to keep your attention. However, behind the gloss and wonder was a lesson for you to absorb. They probably helped you develop useful skills even into your adulthood. The stories you read now are probably more complex. The characters are nuanced and the situations fraught with ambiguity. At times there may not even be an easy lesson to glean. Does that mean, perhaps that some stories are hollow and lacking a moral? Do all stories have a lesson? Join us, Casey Berman, Summer Watson, LaChelle Adkins, Caleb Pearson, as we explore whether or not all stories have a lesson, ways to extract lessons from stories, and other related topics.
