In this week's episode of the New Flesh Podcast, Ricky and Jon interview Julie Szego. Julie is a journalist who wrote for The Age on and off for more than two decades as a social affairs reporter and senior writer. Most recently Julie was a weekly columnist for The Age before being sacked by the paper in June 2023, after calling out the newspaper over its refusal to run her commissioned article on youth gender transition. She subsequently self-published the piece on Substack.
Julie has taught journalism and creative non-fiction at RMIT, and Monash University and is the author of the non-fiction book The Tainted Trial of Farah Jama, which was shortlisted for the Victorian and NSW Premiers’ Literary Awards for 2015.
