The Mincing Rascals this week are John Williams of WGN Radio, Eric Zorn, Publisher of The Picayune Sentinel, Jon Hansen of WGN Radio and Block Club Chicago, and Cate Plys, former staff writer at the Chicago Reader and political op-ed columnist at the Sun-Times and Tribune. The Rascals kick off the podcast celebrating the career of the great Tom Skilling! Next, the Rascals break down the controversial ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court on frozen embryos and Jon discusses his experience with IVF. The Rascals also talk about the latest on the “Bring Chicago Home” (Cate rejects the term ‘millionaire tax’) referendum. Is it on the ballot? Is it off the ballot? Where are we right now? Eric explains why he’s against allowing uniformed police officers in the courtroom during the trial of Emonte Morgan, who is accused of killing Chicago police officer Ella French. Moving on to the sports world, the Rascals talk about Caitlin Clark, the great basketball player from the University of Iowa and the suggestion she could play in the NBA. Could Caitlin play in the NBA? Cate brings us all down by talking about the many reasons (AI, climate change, nuclear weapons, gain-of-function lab research) that we are probably going to die sooner rather than later (Thanks, Cate!). And finally, the Rascals continue their ongoing reviews of Oscar nominated movies. Jon has not seen a movie since 1978, so he sits this discussion out. Eric caught up with Past Lives and agreed with the other Rascals that it was great. But today, the Rascals review the Christopher Nolan epic, “Oppenheimer.”
