I apologize for getting this episode released. I got real discouraged last week, because it looked like listenership dropped steeply, and it really bothered me. That's the weird thing about social media isn't it - how it can impact our emotions? Anyway, I was killing my brain trying to figure out what I had done to run you off. Something New: I have to tell you how much fun I had watching the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, especially wrestling. That finish with Gable Steveson vs. Georgia.... YOU HAVE TO SEE IT! It was a treat to hear John Smith and Jordan Burroughs, but especially Coach Smith.
Mind of Mediocrates: It never ceases to amaze me how shortsighted is my memory when I encounter trials. In reflecting on 1 Kings 19 from Sunday's Mass readings, I am reminded that God isn't in the habit of swooping in to erase problems. Rather, God is present in the midst of our trials and our sufferings and all the crazy madness around us, offering us food and drink for the journey. In other words, He's making the trip with me and with you. Keep this in mind every time you pass a church or walk inside and see that tabernacle candle lit. Jesus IS PRESENT. He stooped to become like us by the Incarnation, and he stoops to humble appearance of bread and wine for the sole purpose of being with us and drawing us to Himself. A presence and a relationship better than what Moses had, and Moses was known to be a man who spoke to God as to a friend.
Something Old: I'm missing my collectible glasses. Most of the collectables I owned came from fast food restaurants. When I watched The Princess Bride with my little kids, I saw that Empire Strikes Back glass (Burger King promo) and I remembered having that whole set. Smurfs glasses (Hardees). Great Muppet Caper (McDonalds) and more. What did you have?
