A “calling” is a desire to address a need or problem in the world. In this episode, I sit down with April Lancit, CEO of April Lancit and Associates, a Private Practice specializing in Mental Health services and support. Black professionals make up three percent of the mental health industry, but April knew from an early age that being a therapist was her “calling”. She couldn’t envision herself doing anything different. April, who also serves as Assistant Professor & Program Director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at La Salle University is the first African American female to hold the role in the university's history. She shares her career journey of being a “first” and “only” and discusses her passion for providing mental health services in the Black community.

Key Takeaways:

  • The importance of finding your voice as a leader and making your presence known.
  • Understanding your employer's HR benefits and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) related to mental health.
  • The value of perseverance, relationship-building, and staying true to your vision.
  • Prioritizing mental health over titles and recognizing when it's time to move on.
