Today's episode covers how to shop as safely as possible on Aliexpress and TikTok Shop. I'll be blunt, the safest way is to not use these store fronts. However, Aliexpress is usually the cheapest way to buy retro handheld devices.
To keep it short and summarize the three easiest things you can do:
- Make a new email account just for Aliexpress and use it for nothing else.
- Make a dummy phone number using Google Voice.
- Use PayPal or a virtual credit card like Privacy Card for payment.
To prevent being scammed:
- Check when the store opened (new stores are more high risk).
- Check the store ratings (low rated stores are not worth it).
- Check the number of reviews, the average review score, and the number of items sold. A legitimate store will be more likely to have higher numbers. These numbers can be faked but it's still a decent indicator overall.
- If it's too good to be true, it usually is.
