As "gut" symptoms are becoming more prevalent and athlete's are learning more about their gut, it's putting a highlight on "normal" symptoms that actually aren't "normal". These symptoms might look like bloating, cramping, pain, constipation, loose stools/diarrhea - various diagnoses, inflammation etc. etc. We always want to look deeper into the environment and what's causing the issues of course like imbalances in gut bacteria, yeast presence, prebiotics/short chain fatty acids/butyrate levels, immune system function, protein/fat absorption and breakdown and more. But what happens when you've done all that and you still have symptoms... sometimes? And it's unclear now what's causing it?

There are many ways that the gut and brain communicate. They are centers for many functions within the body. If you've ever felt nervous, where do you often experience that emotion? Many people will say the gut/stomach. If you get anxious or stressed, do you feel a tightening in your abdomen? Have you considered, just based on this example, that when (if) you experience symptoms in your gut, that your gut might be trying to tell you something? But because we don't think about the body in this way, is it possible you're missing a very critical cue that could have a positive impact on your symptoms moving forward? Today's episode dives into this topic and more!
