Dollar Tree’s latest earnings report paints a grim picture of the American economy. This isn’t just a minor dip in retail performance; it’s a broader indictment of an economic system that, under the leadership of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, appears to have lost its way. The data reveals a troubling reality: inflation and rising costs have left the middle class too financially strained to shop even at discount retailers like Dollar Tree.

What we are witnessing is more than just a downturn for a single retail chain—it’s a reflection of the widespread financial pressure facing middle-class families. As prices continue to climb and wages struggle to keep pace, even the most budget-friendly shopping options are becoming out of reach. This scenario underscores the significant economic challenges currently facing the nation and raises serious questions about the direction of current economic policy.

and Obesity among troops costs Pentagon more than $1 billion per year, new study finds Obesity was the leading cause for disqualification among hopeful military recruit applicants, and the top driver of separations among active-duty troops in 2023, according to the new American Security Project study. The Washington-based think tank that studies modern national security issues found the Pentagon spent some $1.25 billion last year treating military patients for dozens of diseases related to obesity, and another $99 million in lost productivity among hospitalized overweight troops.

Beth Troutman from Good Morning BT is also here for this Thursday episode of Crossing the Streams. Brett and Beth talk about the 14-year-old student accused of killing four people and wounding nine others in Wednesday's shooting at Apalachee High School in northern Georgia, including what investigators learned when they interviewed the suspect last year. As new information comes out about the suspect, Colt Gray, officials continue to investigate how the teen obtained the gun used in the attack and what was the motive for the latest school shooting in the U.S.. Beth also shares what She and Bo Thompson have coming up Friday on Good Morning BT!
