About Donovan:
Donovan Smith is an an-award winning writer and creative raised and based in Portland. Through the multimedia Gentrification is WEIRD! platform he is working to research, elevate and create Black space in Oregon through arts and civic engagement. Throughout 2020 he has written for numerous publications, and facilitated a three-week course on Oregon’s racist history, using Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly”, and the landmark texts of Dr. Karen Gibson’s “Bleeding Albina” paired with Ta-Nehisi Coates “The Case for Reparations”. Right now, he is working on the podcast “Uprising: a guide from Portland” for iHeart Radio detailing the 100+ days of consecutive protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
