Undereating is consuming insufficient amounts of food to meet the body's energy and nutrient requirements. It is the opposite of overeating, where one consumes an excess of calories. Undereating can occur for various reasons, including intentional restriction of food intake for weight loss purposes, disordered eating patterns, lack of access to food (which I didn't really touch on as most people listening to this podcast have access to food) and a few more.

When a person consistently consumes fewer calories than their body needs, it can lead to negative health consequences. Inadequate intake of essential nutrients, such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals, can result in nutrient deficiencies and imbalances. This can lead to a range of physical and psychological symptoms, including fatigue, weakness, dizziness, hair loss, hormonal imbalances, poor immune function, impaired cognitive function, and mood disturbances.

Undereating can also contribute to the development of eating disorders which are serious and can lead to an intense fear of gaining weight and distorted body image. It is not an easy subject to talk about as it impacts many people, including the clients I work with on a daily basis, but I believe this podcast will help the conversation open.
