On this episode of the Terribly Vexed podcast we take a look at the mysteries surrounding the "Moon-Eyed People" and the ancient ruins they left behind. Numerous historical accounts testify to the fact that the Cherokee said a race of light skinned, blue eyed, white people that could see only under the cover of night, lived in the mountains of the Appalachia before they arrived. Both the Creek and the Cherokee legends speak of the battles they engaged in against the ‘Moon-Eyes’ and how they eventually drove them out of the region. One thing is certain, they existed, but who were they? Could they have been the descendants of the Welsh Prince Madoc, who may have landed in the area of Mobile Bay in 1170, or were they another unknown tribe of people now altogether lost to antiquity? Remnants of their lost civilization still remain today. Located atop Fort Mountain near Chatsworth, Georgia, a 900 foot stone wall snakes around the mountainside, its origins have baffled archaeologists, geologists, and historians for generations. Scholars suggest its construction may date back to 400 A.D., but theories abound as to when it may have actually been constructed and what purpose it served its builders. A sacred place of worship, a defensive structure for Spanish explorers, or does the mountain itself contain some unknown cosmological significance?
