Despite extensive searches, Melanie’s whereabouts remained unknown until October 5, 2009, when her remains were discovered in a garbage bag along the M5 motorway. The gruesome find revealed she had suffered severe injuries, but the exact cause of death remained unclear.

Over the years, numerous suspects, including infamous criminals like John Cannan and Levi Bellfield, were investigated, but no one has been charged.
