In this episode of Thriving Parent-ing, I discuss eight critical signs that parents may be letting their children's emotions define their parenting abilities. I provided a compassionate approach, encouraging parents to allow themselves to feel and process these emotions.

The episode covers the following signs: taking emotional reactions personally, creating inconsistent boundaries, overcompensating for the child's emotions, avoiding conflict, experiencing excessive guilt, constantly seeking validation, neglecting self-care, and becoming emotionally enmeshed with the child.

I personally have anecdotes and professional insights gathered from 12 years of parenting three children, emphasizing that these challenges are normal and that parents are not alone. Practical steps and reflections were shared to help parents recognize these patterns and start working through them.

Taking care of our emotional wellbeing is one of the best things we can do for our kids. Parenting can bring up a lot of emotions, some of which we can understand and others that may require additional support. If this podcast content has brought up challenging or distressing feelings, consider speaking with your GP about a referral to a psychologist or exploring alternative therapy options for extra support.
