In the 1830s and 1840s, a ban was placed on bowling by officials based in Connecticut. Excessive gambling was linked with the activity...At the time, bowling featured nine pins, which is what was specifically outlawed. Players found a way around this by adding an extra pin, making the game 10-pin. so in 1895, the American Bowling Congress was formed in New York, setting standardized rules and organizing the sport formally for the first time. As the sport grew in popularity, bowling leagues became part of American culture, particularly highlighted during the mid-20th century when bowling was booming. there are even some funny bowling movies...like the big lebowski and kingpin.
