Bobby Gregory in 1926

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

Do you know who this fellow is? That’s right! Accordionist and songwriter Bobby Gregory. His is the first of three birthday segments on this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records. The other two birthdays we’ll be celebrating are those of Rube Bloom and Michael H. Cleary. Also, for no particular reason, we’ll have a segment of “stormy” songs. For no particular reason. And we’ll also have a set of songs about that thing. You know. That thing. No, not that thing, that thing! There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era.

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Bobby Gregory

Am I Dreaming? – Jolly Coburn Orchestra / Harold van Emburgh
Who Threw The Much In Grandpa’s Whiskers? – Peg La Centra / Jerry Sears Orchestra
Blue-Eyed Baby – Tennessee Ramblers

Segment 2: That Thing

You’ve Got That Thing – Leo Reisman AHO / Frank Luther, v.
Doggin’ That Thing – Walter Pichon
Shake That Thing – The Jim Dandies

Segment 3: Stormy

Stormy Weather – Joe Robichaux and His New Orleans Rhythm Boys
The Stormy Sea Of Love – Irving Kaufman
My Stormy Weather Pal – The Cavaliers / Oscar Grogan, v.

Segment 4: Rube Bloom

That Futuristic Rag – Rube Bloom (Piano Solo)
On Revival Day – Rube Bloom and His Bayou Boys / Irving Kaufman, v.
I Want Somebody To Cheer Me Up – Esther Walker (Piano accompanied by Rube Bloom)

Segment 5: Michael H. Cleary

It Took A Lot Of Blues (To Take My Blues Away) – Dixie Daisies
My Arms Are Open – Ed Lowry
Nobody But You – Imperial Dance Orchestra / Irving Kaufman, v.

THANKS FOR LISTENING! ENJOY THE SHOW!
