Opening Text: Isaiah 54:5 For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth. NIV

The Heart of A Redeemer

1. Rescues you from bondage.

Exodus 6:5-7 Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment. 7 I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt. NLT

2. Restores what was lost.

Leviticus 25:25 If one of your fellow Israelites becomes poor and sells some of their property, their nearest relative is to come and redeem what they have sold. NIV

3. Renews your life.

Psalms 103:2-5 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Posture of the Redeem

Hosea 3:1-5 Then the Lord said to me, “Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them.”

1. Redemption comes when we least expect it or deserve it.

2 So I bought her back for fifteen pieces of silver and five bushels of barley and a measure of wine.

2. You can only receive love as an act of love and kindness.

3. Redemption deepens our relationship with God.

How To Encounter God’s Redeeming Love

1. You must want it and accept it.

2. Repentance is how we return to God.

Isaiah 59:20-21 “The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,” declares the Lord. 21 “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord. NIV

3. Live a life worthy of His love.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. NIV
