Rachel struggled with depression, anxiety, self harming (cutting), eating disorder, and suicide thoughts. The struggles started at a very young age. She notices these things got worse and her eating disorder evolved into something more. She felt as if her life was out of control. The eating disorder was something she could control and then it lead to wanting more control of her life then she turned to self harming. She would cut herself in hiding. She felt more in control when she would cut herself. She finally got to a breaking point around the age of 17 years of age and reached out to her parents. Then they did everything they could to help her and to get her help. The turning point for Rachel was when several things in her life was changing that was out of her control then she hits rock bottom. Then runs from God feeling as if God had let her down and told God she was done with him. And then a friend was brave enough to confront her on hear actions and it changed her life. Pushing her to go back to church and turn back to God. She decides that she would escape to Camp Ba Yo-Ca right here in her back yard of the Great Smoky Mountains where she had volunteered and was a camp leader, hoping to get alone with God. She told God she was done and thought she would just take her own life and then she feels someone or something push her. It stops her from taking her own life and during this alone time she started asking God to come back to her, to speak to her. Then she feels God's presence and he speaks to her that very night and she starts to seek God again. God chased after her, never letting her go even when she had her back toward God, he still pursued her. And now at 23 yrs old it's been a long mental, emotional struggle to get where she is now trusting and leaning on God to help her. She stills has very hard days. And clings to the verses Phil. 3:10-14, Ps. 34:18, Ps. 147:3, & Ps. 55. 22. to give her strength. Rachel has now started her very own podcast-He Holds Me Together. She is now running toward God and hopes to help other girls and women who have struggled or who find themselves struggling with depression, anxiety, self harming and who have an eating disorder as well.
