Join us on our journey as we navigate the ups and downs of living with Invisible Disease and finding our balance with our partners and caregivers."

This episode was about Caregiving and support, and how I learned that it is important to provide grace to both yourself and your partner when managing a chronic illness. I also learned that it is important to communicate clearly with your partner about your needs, as well as to remember that caregiving involves emotional and physical work for both partners. Lastly, I learned that it is essential to be mindful of the different experiences of caregiving and to remember that we are all in it together.

"Finding a way to ask for help, allow yourself to receive the help, even if it's not as you would do it yourself and to be okay with it."

In this episode, you will learn the following:

1. What happened when two “super helpful” spouses had to adjust to a lifestyle change due to chronic illness?

2. How can couples navigate the tension between needing help and feeling like a burden on their partners?

3. How do long-term couples adapt to managing the physical, emotional, and relationship challenges of chronic illness?

Chapter Summaries:

[00:00:27]

Jesse: Has my husband reverted back to his old lazy husband stuff? He says he took four days to do the dishes that he said he was going to do. When his chronic illness became a thing, he took on laundry. Give him some grace, he says.

[00:09:02]

Like where really it's just making sure they're hearing what your needs actually are. Women need their intimacy first before they'll get intimate. Men need the physical intimacy before they get to the emotional intimacy. But it is a lot more work for women.

[00:17:10]

When something like chronic illness hits, there is kind of a make or break of closeness. I feel like there's either bonding or for other people. I think relationships should be an entire section that we can have for conversation in the group.

[00:20:54]

Kassy's overall hack is to get a house cleaner to come in every Wednesday.

Jenny's number one hack is bringing it back to the perspective that it's not all about me.
