This week on Monday Mile I link up with one of Britain's most exciting Olympic talents, not just because she has two Commonwealth Golds in her back pocket and made the Olympic final at the age of 16, but because she’s a role model and advocate for debunking stereotypes around aesthetics and body image. I'm chatting to Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix.
After one of her training sessions at the Olympic Park in London, we chat about juggling her A levels as well as a full time diving career, and Andrea talks openly about the mental load and emotional fatigue associated with this pressure, and how she manages it. We also open up the conversation around her extra studies (an EPQ), which is a personal choice to develop her own knowledge after the struggle with eating and body confidence especially within an aesthetic sport like diving.
She’s strong, she is empowering and everything I admire in an athlete. We also talk about Paris 2024 as the countdown is now on, and the home-field advantage and Andrea's mindset going into it.
Aimee will be probing for answers from the full spectrum of routines; the early birds who have finely tuned Monday mornings, to the late risers who struggle to get up before 11am. How do elite athletes find the motivation to kick start their week come rain or shine? How do celebrities deliver no matter what the time of day? What knowledge can they pass on?
Each episode drops on a Monday morning as a bitesize piece of content and weekly dose of motivation - right when you need it. Aimee will meet each of her guests for a walk and a chat and over the course of the mile she will find out how they cope on a Monday morning - their idiosyncrasies, breakfast routines, alarm noises - and how, when they need to, find the motivation to kick-on through the week. Sharing some of Britain's greatest athletes, entrepreneurs, doctors, authors and broadcasters ’ secrets on self-motivation, candid thoughts on what they struggle with and a sideways look at some of their more unusual morning habits.
