Tricuspid Valve Repair (congenital and acquired)
Guest: Joseph A. Dearani, M.D.

Hosts: Paul A. Friedman, M.D.
Tricuspid regurgitation is being recognized with increased frequency in the current era. The etiology ranges from congenital anomalies and acquired diseases. The most common causes are typically functional tricuspid regurgitation secondary to left-sided heart disease, atrial fibrillation with right heart dilatation, and pacemaker/ICD lead-induced.

Topics Discussed:

  • Most common causes of tricuspid regurgitation (acquired and congenital)
  • Is the risk of tricuspid valve surgery high?
  • Which is more common: isolated tricuspid valve surgery vs concomitant tricuspid valve surgery?
  • Are there minimally invasive approaches to tricuspid valve operation?
  • Do all surgeons perform tricuspid valve repair?
  • What are the most common concomitant procedures with tricuspid valve surgery? (maze, LA appendage closure, etc.)
  • Is pulmonary hypertension a contraindication to tricuspid valve surgery?
  • Does liver dysfunction improve following tricuspid valve surgery.
  • What is the role of percutaneous therapy for tricuspid valve disease?
