Conditioning and Guts
Manage episode 349042655 series 3189333
Ed Parker, the founder of American Kenpo Karate and a well renowned martial artist and teacher was famous for using saying, analogies and stories to help students better understand the martial arts. One of my favourites is "Condition and guts take over where knowledge and skill end!"
Most people collect sayings but a martial artist uses them to help define their approach to training, practice and every day life.
As martial artists advance in age and rank, physical fitness frequently moves to the back burner creating short and long term health issues. Our level of physical fitness will either enhance or limit our ability to perform actions on the training floor or on the street! Do you want to be the person who needs a scooter to roam around Disney World or gets winded after a few push-ups or a burpee?
We need to take the word conditioning to heart and make it part of our daily lifestyle. In this brief video we discuss this saying by Ed Parker and give a few ideas regarding things we can do to start moving forward in our martial art lifestyle by improving our physical health.
