South Cobb 'Microtransit' Launching This Fall
Cobb County commissioners recently approved a $2.2 million contract to launch a microtransit pilot program in south Cobb. This on-demand "curb-to-curb" service, resembling rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft but publicly subsidized, aims to provide affordable transit within a 22-square-mile area.
The pilot could pave the way for a countywide expansion, funded by the proposed $11 billion M-SPLOST. If approved by voters on Nov. 5, it would introduce 14 microtransit zones, 108 miles of rapid bus routes, and new transit centers. Microtransit fares will be $2.50, running Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with plans to launch on Oct. 15. While Democratic commissioners support the initiative, Republican members remain skeptical, citing past failures in similar projects.
