Episode 47: Women and Conflict Reporting, with Suzanne Kianpour
Manage episode 435008242 series 3555794
Today's guest is Suzanne Kianpour, an international journalist who seeks a genuine place for women in reporting and negotiating from conflict zones around the world. From her start at Emory University to the BBC, Suzanne understood that more young women needed to be encouraged and supported in journalism reporting, and that women can play a vital role in both informing people and, simultaneously, helping to offer differing perspectives on defusing international conflicts.
Suzanne has covered issues ranging from the "Mueller Report" on Donald Trump's alleged ties to the Russian authorities, to the current conflicts in the Middle East.
In this episode with Liss and Kristi, she also navigates the balance between personal and professional ambitions, particularly for women in journalism. Drawing inspiration from pioneering journalists like Barbara Walters and Savannah Guthrie, we discuss the pressures and challenges women face in balancing career aspirations with personal life goals.
For aspiring Journalism and Reporting students - it's a huge advantage to speak a foreign language (in Suzanne's case, Farsi and others) or to have studied Economics ,or a related practical social science.
