How should Christians seek to be faithful and generous with our money? What does money tell us about the proper order of our affections as followers of Jesus? We continue for the second week to look at 1 Timothy 6.
1 Timothy 6:17-19
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. Colossians 1:28
Two Dangers of Being Rich in this Present Age:
- Pride
- False security
Two Duties of the Rich in this Present Age:
- We must generously embrace the responsibility of wealth.
- We must learn and hold fast to that which is truly life.
“Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required…” Luke 12:48b
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” C.S. Lewis
Three Words of Application:
- Pray for a generous heart.
- Consider what your lifestyle reveals.
- Plan to give sacrificially.
