It's the newest edition of the podcast, as host T.J. Rives and co-host Mike Gill return with their takes on the weekend and more in sports and the coverage of it in sports media on the "Last Word on Sports Media" podcast!
They discuss:
The College Football craziness and announcers calling the wild games and upsets and did the MLB playoffs make an impact Saturday or not?
There's also discussion of the NFL Sunday that had 15 hours of football from London Sunday morning with Aaron Rodgers and the Jets against the Vikes all the way to late Sunday night (after a lightning delay) for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys heroics in the final minute vs. the Steelers. The guys talk the drama, the broadcasters and more.
The guys also mix in the MLB Postseason conversation, as it went head to head with football Saturday through Monday. Mike has lots of interest in the Phillies in his market and their success and MLB does have the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers in the biggest markets, too.
There's discussion of Shams Charania being hired as the new ESPN NBA insider and senior writer and Mike wonders how much value there really is in breaking news via social media now, anyway?
Finally, there's lots of info on the ridiculous "mud-slinging" by the disgruntled WNBA players and their association at famed former Washington Post writer and now USA Today columnist and author Christine Brennan. Brennan question whether a Connecticut player purposely tried to poke Indiana's Caitlin Clark's eye in a playoff game and it set off a firestorm of reaction. TJ speficially defends Brennan against critics for obvious reasons in her background, etc.
