Luke 5:1-11 NKJV

Premise

⁃ The command to go deeper indicates that the effort given so far has been shallow with the illusion of limitations but in reality a lack of faith and instruction. On the other hand, The command to “let down your nets” indicates you have held your nets and have not caught anything. Or in other words you have tried your way long enough, now try the Lord’s.

1. We cannot fear following instructions for they are the means to getting to what’s next. Because of this truth we must have the faith to obey understanding that The Lord knows exactly what’s He’s doing.

“So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught them multitudes from the boat.”

Luke 5:1-3 NKJV

2. Never allow stubbornness, pride, or familiarity to prevent you from receiving the benefits of the promise. To get different results we must yield to the instructions of the Lord that we may experience breakthroughs in purpose that yields results that are pleasing to the Lord and not only satisfactory to men.

“When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.””

Luke 5:4-5 NKJV

3. Proof that we have followed the instructions of the Lord is that we possess uncommon results in the field we have availed to him. These results come from obedience that activate grace to produce favor. Is your net breaking?

“And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.”

Luke 5:6-7 NKJV

4. The acknowledgment and acceptance of Grace allows us to comprehend that the results given are a work of the Lord and not of our own hands. Therefore it is imperative to know that Grace is born out of humility.

“When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken;”

Luke 5:8-9 NKJV

5. In our obedience to the command of the Lord to Launch out into the deep we must be clear of this notion, that the goal of every gift, skill, talent, resource, and grace is to submit it to the Lord allowing it/them to yield results for HIS kingdom and not our own.

“”And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.”” Luke 5:10b NKJV
