Vinny Roca has sharing glimpses of his work on social media and in galleries for months, but our conversation with him is still a big moment in the digital art world and a chance to find out exactly what this innovative creator thinks the future of interactive experiences looks like.
In this episode, we talk through all of Vinny's recent projects, from the procedurally generated pig rituals to the tension-filled joystick installations. We also discuss his earlier works, particularly the Shaker-inspired digital pieces. Vinny is now several years into his journey as a digital artist and appears to be serious about being a big player in the intersection of art and technology. So, the question is: will any of these creations make real noise in the art world? Maybe the pig rituals are the interactive experience we've been waiting for, but in a gallery setting, that's a big ask. Or maybe the industrial joystick interface can be the tactile connection to digital art we all deserve and need.
In reality, it might just be that Vinny's whole artistic plan is actually a commentary on our relationship with objects and systems. These new works come with lots of conceptual upgrades in the name of better human-object interactions and ship with new features like procedurally generated camera angles that promise to make your art viewing experience more dynamic and engaging. So much of the digital art world is exploring similar themes, so we chat about whether Vinny — or anyone — is actually showing us what the future of interactive art might look like.
