After 34 manatee fatalities were recorded in Northeast Florida this year alone, the Public Trust for Conservation, along with scientists and maritime experts, are collaborating on solutions to protect the state’s cherished gentle giants. Drones and advanced mapping technology to alert mariners about the presence of manatees are just some of the proposed guardrails devised to limit sea cow deaths. We discuss the initiatives the group is spearheading to promote coexistence between commerce and conservation.
