Day 341 of the podcast, reading Colossians 1-4 NET, read along at:
https://netbible.org/bible/Colossians+1-4/
This is day 341 of our journey.
Paul wrote the book of Colossians as an encouragement to the church at Colossae so that they would remain devoted to the exalted Christ. Christ is the image of God and the firstborn of all creation, in him all things were created! Despite his glory and power, Jesus chose to humble himself and die so that we might be reconciled to himself. Because of this great gift, we must be faithful to him in all things, proclaiming Christ to others as we endure all kinds of hardships. Paul goes on to emphasize the need to live in unity with each other; not only forgiving those who sin against us but also lifting them up in their weaknesses. His final encouragement is that we must conduct ourselves with wisdom, speaking graciously to all people so that we can spread the gospel to others.
Join me in Colossians 1-4 and revel in the glory of Christ working through us!
Key verses:
Colossians 1:22
but now he has reconciled you by his physical body through death to present you holy, without blemish, and blameless before him –
Colossians 2:13
And even though you were dead in your transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he nevertheless made you alive with him, having forgiven all your transgressions.
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 4:5-6
Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunities. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer everyone.

Hi, this is Danny Whittaker with “Devoted to Scripture”. We have journeyed through the Bible together over the past year..., and, now that our journey is complete, I want to share with you some of the things that I've learned and the challenges that God has helped me to overcome. I don’t know where you are Spiritually, but, you have just listened to the entire Bible (and if you were keeping up, you did it in a year!) Ask God to reveal to you how he wants you to spend your next year. What is the next road in your journey? Don’t let this accomplishment be a trophy that gathers dust, instead, let our journey through God’s holy word be a stepping block to help you reach something greater. Spend time reflecting on the year that just passed and then reflecting on the year to come. God has a great plan for you! As you go, please let me know you’ve made it this far! It means SO much to me when I hear from someone who has been listening. How has my reading impacted you? What do you feel like God is calling you to next? How can I pray for you? Email me at devotedtoScripture@gmail.com . Lord Jesus, thank you so much for leading me to do this podcast this year. Thank you even more for giving me the strength to accomplish it. Thank you for the people who have listened. Thank you for the way you have helped me to grow. Thank you that you have a plan for each of us next year and a plan for how you are preparing us to be used into the future. Help us to seek you daily! Amen! To all of you who have taken this journey with me, you are an immense blessing: Be faithful followers of Jesus. Be transformed by his Word. Be a light unto the world. Be bold and courageous. And, as my brothers and sisters in Christ...my prayer for you is simply this: Be devoted to Scripture!…

Today, we finish our incredible journey through the Bible. The Bible ends with John describing the final judgement of Satan and his followers. They will be cast into the lake of fire to be tormented forever. But, those who have persevered through trials and devoted themselves to Christ will reign with him forever. God will return and will wipe away every tear, he will remove all pain and suffering and disease and hardship and sickness. We will live in a great city with God as our source of light. There will be no more need of a temple, because God will dwell with us! Join me in Revelation 20-22 and rejoice at the coming of Christ and...Join me tomorrow for a final, special episode with some closing comments and a challenge moving forward! Thank you for joining me on this journey this year! You’ve made it through the Bible, congratulations! But, this is just the beginning, what will you do next? How will you share the things you have learned and the ways that God has worked in your life? How are you going to join God in the story of Salvation? Come back tomorrow for one more broadcast as I share some of the ways that God has been working in my life this year. Be devoted to Scripture! Key verses: Revelation 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are too, and they will be tormented there day and night forever and ever. Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more – or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.” Revelation 22:20 The one who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! All Scriptures are from the NET.…

Day 362 of the podcast, reading Revelation 15-19 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+15-19/ This is day 362 of our journey. Today, John tells us of the final seven plagues that fulfill the wrath of God on the earth. Seven angels pour out seven bowls of wrath bringing destruction and devastation on all who refuse to bow to Christ. After this, John is told of the destruction of Babylon, the great city of the world that causes all men to turn away from God. Then, the celebration begins, the saints and angels in heaven rejoice at the greatness of God and the resurrected Christ as he prepares to go to war in the final battle to bring his bride to himself. Join me in Revelation 15-19 and rejoice in the Salvation of our God and of his Christ! Key verses: Revelation 15:7 Then one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God who lives forever and ever, Revelation 16:7 Then I heard the altar reply, “Yes, Lord God, the All-Powerful, your judgments are true and just!” Revelation 17:1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke to me. “Come,” he said, “I will show you the condemnation and punishment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters, Revelation 18:5 because her sins have piled up all the way to heaven and God has remembered her crimes. Revelation 19:7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory, because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. All Scriptures are from the NET.…

Day 361 of the podcast, reading Revelation 10-14 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+10-14/ This is day 361 of our journey. We continue to read John's visions from the island of Patmos. Today we will read about a scroll that is bitter; two witnesses; the seventh trumpet and the praise that follows it; a pregnant woman and a dragon; Satan being cast down from heaven; two beasts ruling the earth; 144,000 witnesses praising God; and three angels with messages for the world. These visions have been the source of many discussions and speculations about what the end of the world will look like but, until the day of the Lord occurs, no one will know precisely how to interpret all the symbols and signs given here. As I read this, I am overwhelmed with a feeling of awe at the majesty of our God who has all things in his hands. He will punish those that refuse to follow him and he will comfort those who are persecuted for his name. In the end, he will reign on high over all people! Join me in Revelation 10-14 and recognize the unsurpassable power of our great God! Key verses: Revelation 10:7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to blow his trumpet, the mystery of God is completed, just as he has proclaimed to his servants the prophets.” Revelation 11:15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying:“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 12:9 So that huge dragon – the ancient serpent, the one called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world – was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him. Revelation 13:18 This calls for wisdom: Let the one who has insight calculate the beast’s number, for it is man’s number, and his number is 666. Revelation 14:7 He declared in a loud voice: “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has arrived, and worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water!” All Scriptures are from the NET.…

Day 360 of the podcast, reading Revelation 5-9 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+5-9/ This is day 360 of our journey. Today's reading begins to reveal the judgements that will be enacted upon the earth in the end times. First, John sees a scroll that is sealed with seven seals that only the Lamb who has been slain is worthy to open. The lamb took the scroll and the heavenly hosts worshiped him over and over, giving him all honor, glory, and praise. When the lamb opened each seal, a different plague appeared: war, famine, disease, and disasters. When he came to the seventh seal, there was 30 minutes of silence, then seven angels with seven trumpets appeared and, as each blew his trumpet, even greater plagues came upon the earth to enact judgment on the people for their unwillingness to follow the Lamb of God. Join me in Revelation 5-9 and worship the Lamb who was slain and is worthy of all honor and praise! Key verses: Revelation 5:12 all of whom were singing in a loud voice:“Worthy is the lamb who was killed to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and praise!” Revelation 6:1 I looked on when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a thunderous voice, “Come!” Revelation 7:4 Now I heard the number of those who were marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed from all the tribes of the people of Israel: Revelation 8:1 Now when the Lamb opened the seventh seal there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Revelation 9:12 The first woe has passed, but two woes are still coming after these things! All Scriptures are from the NET.…

Day 359 of the podcast, reading Revelation 1-4 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+1-4/ This is day 359 of our journey. Today we begin the last book of the Bible! The book of Revelation was written by a Christian elder named John while he was living in exile on the island of Patmos. He wrote to "the seven churches" as a warning to continue to remain faithful in the face of the hardship that would come at the hand of the Romans and the world at large. The book is classified as apocalyptic literature, with a visitor from heaven revealing the future and secrets of the unseen world through vivid symbols and imagery. These symbols are hard to understand, but become more clear when understood in the context of the first-century Christian and when compared to other Biblical imagery. The book begins with seven messages to the seven churches. John writes of specific issues in those churches and their need to remain faithful to the end, giving each church a promise of what they will receive if they remain faithful. Today's reading ends in the throne room of God where we are taken up to witness 24 elders and 4 living creatures surround him to proclaim the holiness and glory of Christ! Join me in Revelation 1-4 and praise the Saviour of the world! Key verses: Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God – the one who is, and who was, and who is still to come – the All-Powerful! Revelation 2:29 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’ Revelation 3:5 The one who conquers will be dressed like them in white clothing, and I will never erase his name from the book of life, but will declare his name before my Father and before his angels. Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God,to receive glory and honor and power, since you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created!” All Scriptures are from the NET. Day 358 of the podcast, reading Jude 1 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Jude+1/ This is day 358 of our journey. Today we focus in on the book of Jude. Jude was one of Jesus' half-brothers (along with James), he was a leader in the early church and wrote this letter to Jewish Christians. He writes to combat false teachers who were threatening the faith that was entrusted to God's holy people. These men reject authority on the basis of "spiritual dreams". But, they are not following the Spirit, rather they are following mere natural instincts. Believers must resist such false teachings and cleanse their community by rejecting them. Jude closes with a beautiful benediction giving all glory and majesty to the Savior that presents us spotless before the throne of God. Join me in Jude 1 and reject false teachings as you worship the true Savior! Key verses: Jude 1:24-25 Now to the one who is able to keep you from falling, and to cause you to stand, rejoicing, without blemish before his glorious presence, 25 to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time, and now, and for all eternity. Amen. All Scriptures are from the NET. Check out these links for more thoughts on the topic: https://thebibleproject.com/explore/Jude/…

Day 357 of the podcast, reading 2 John 1 3 John NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/2+John+1+3+John/ This is day 357 of our journey. Today we will read two short letters from John. Second John is written to another church gathering, and has similar themes to First John, but in much briefer form. He gives them a warning to stay away from false teachers and to withhold support from them. At the same time he praises them for continuing to walk in the truth. Third John is written to his friend, Gaius, as a note of thanks and encouragement. John had sent a letter to the church introducing some brothers in Christ to them, but one of the church leaders refused to accept these men and forbid anyone else from accepting them as well. Gaius, however, put them up in his own home, allowing them to complete their mission. Join me in 2 John & 3 John and walk in the truth with love! Key verses: 2 John 1:9 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who remains in this teaching has both the Father and the Son. 3 John 1:11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is bad but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does what is bad has not seen God. All Scriptures are from the NET. Day 356 of the podcast, reading 1 John 1-5 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/1+John+1-5/ This is day 356 of our journey. This letter was written to a group of believers struggling with a heartbreaking and dangerous situation. Some of their fellowship had abandoned the truth of the Gospel and, creating a hybrid doctrine swayed by false religions of the region, they denied the truth of the incarnation of Christ in physical form. They lived immoral lives and lacked love for others yet they still openly claimed to know God and belong to God. The believers that were left behind, those still trying to follow the Gospel of Christ, were deeply shaken and uncertain about everything they had been taught. John writes this letter to reassure them of what they have heard from the beginning. He testifies to the reality of the Messiah coming in the flesh. He emphasizes that they have full access to the truth and that the truth is love. God is love and everyone who is of God lives a life of love! Join me in 1 John 1-5 and revel in the love of God! Key verses: 1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, 1 John 3:16 We have come to know love by this: that Jesus laid down his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians. 1 John 4:10 In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 5:12 The one who has the Son has this eternal life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have this eternal life. All Scriptures are from the NET. Check out these links for more thoughts on the topic: https://thebibleproject.com/explore/1-John/…

Day 355 of the podcast, reading 2 Peter 1-3 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/2+Peter+1-3/ This is day 355 of our journey. Peter wrote this second letter shortly before his execution. He wanted to write another letter to the believers confirming what they had been taught about Jesus. False teachers had arisen proposing that since Jesus hadn't returned yet, he wasn't really coming at all. As a result, they began living immoral lives and were not worried about a future judgment. Peter stresses the fact that he personally saw the glory of God on the mountain and reiterates that everyone will see that same glory when Jesus returns. He then explains the reason for Jesus' delayed return, he is patient and wants everyone to have a chance to repent! Join me in 2 Peter 1-3 and live good lives with hope for the new heaven and new earth that are coming! Key verses: 2 Peter 1:10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to be sure of your calling and election. For by doing this you will never stumble into sin. 2 Peter 2:9 – if so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from their trials, and to reserve the unrighteous for punishment at the day of judgment, 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. All Scriptures are from the NET. Check out these links for more thoughts on the topic: https://thebibleproject.com/explore/2-Peter/…

Day 354 of the podcast, reading 1 Peter 1-5 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/1+Peter+1-5/ This is day 354 of our journey. Today we will read the first of two books written by the apostle Peter. The end of Peter's ministry was spent as one of the leaders of the church in Rome. While serving there, he learned about the persecution being faced by Christians in other provinces and wrote this letter to encourage them to remain faithful. His message comes in three-parts. First, live a holy life (putting behind you worldly things that you did when you were ignorant of the truth) and recognize that you are now a holy nation called to new life. Next, live this holy life as an example to others and, in so doing, impress those that foolishly persecute Christians without cause. Finally, he reminds the church that persecution is an expected part of the Christian life. After all, Christ, the Messiah, suffered persecution by a world that opposed his message and the hope that it brings...we, as his followers, will suffer that same persecution as well. But take heart and remember this; Jesus will return (as he promised) and he will, once and for all, restore his people! Join me in 1 Peter 1-5 and live for God as you endure hardship waiting for his return! Key verses: 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 3:15 But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess. 1 Peter 4:19 So then let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator as they do good. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour. All Scriptures are from the NET. Check out these links for more thoughts on the topic: https://thebibleproject.com/explore/1-Peter/…

Day 353 of the podcast, reading James 1-5 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/James+1-5/ This is day 353 of our journey. Today we read the book of James. James was a half-brother of Jesus and became the leader of the church in Jerusalem. He filled this letter with teachings to be sent to Jewish believers scattered throughout the Roman empire. The book of James is full of little bits of wisdom covering all aspects of life and, thus, doesn't have the same feel as many of Paul's letters. He focuses on daily living and what that should looks like in the life of a Christian. Topics span from controling one's tongue to caring for the poor. James clearly emphasizes the need to give evidence of our faith by the way we live and asserts that true Salvation will naturally be accompanied by a changed life. James also encourages his readers to persevere when faced with persecution, knowing that hardships strengthen and perfect us. Join me in James 1-5, hear the Word and do what it says! Key verses: James 1:2-3 My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. James 2:17 So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself. James 3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. If someone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect individual, able to control the entire body as well. James 4:6 But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.” James 5:8 You also be patient and strengthen your hearts, for the Lord’s return is near. All Scriptures are from the NET. Check out these links for more thoughts on the topic: https://thebibleproject.com/explore/James/…

Day 352 of the podcast, reading Hebrews 12-13 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Hebrews+12-13/ This is day 352 of our journey. The book of Hebrews ends with words of encouragement that empower the believer to stand strong in difficult circumstances. There are so many faithful followers who have gone before us that we can look to as examples. By the grace of Christ, we run (with endurance) the race that has been set before us. Suffering and persecution will come, but these are the things that God uses to strengthen us. We can stand confidently knowing that God is our helper and that there is nothing that this world can throw at us that can separate us from our loving, Holy Savior! Join me in Hebrews 12-13 and be confident in Christ to bring victory in all circumstances! Key verses: Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us, Hebrews 13:6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can people do to me?” All Scriptures are from the NET.…

Day 351 of the podcast, reading Hebrews 10-11 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Hebrews+10-11/ This is day 351 of our journey. In Hebrews 10, the author contrasts the old and new sacrifices. The old sacrifice was offered year after year and could never fully cover sin. It was, instead, a contant reminder of the sin that separates from God. The new sacrifice was offered once, and after being offered, Christ ascended to sit at the right hand of God. His sacrifice paid the debt of sin for all time and, unlike any sacrifice before it, had the power to perfect those that, through Christ, are being made holy. Hebrews 11 discusses the role of faith - faith is what makes it possible to approach God and receive a reward from him. We are then reminded of all the ways that the people of the Old Testament lived by faith. Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses all looked forward to a promise that they never saw in their own lifetime, but they had faith that God would fulfill his word to them. We too have been given a promise and must have faith that it will be accomplished in us! Join me in Hebrews 10-11 and walk by faith! Key verses: Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he has perfected for all time those who are made holy. Hebrews 11:6 Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:39 And these all were commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. All Scriptures are from the NET.…

Day 350 of the podcast, reading Hebrews 6-9 NET, read along at: https://netbible.org/bible/Hebrews+6-9/ This is day 350 of our journey. The writer of Hebrews continues to emphasize that Christ is a greater high priest than those prescribed by the law. He takes time to talk about Melchizedek, a priest before God who once accepted a gift from Abraham before he had become a great nation. Melchizedek was a greater priest than any Levitical priest because he came before them and bestowed the Lord's blessing upon Abraham. The Bible gives no details about the origin or the end of Melchizedek; similarly, Christ has no beginning and no end. Christ will be our high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4). Not only is Jesus a greater high priest, but the covenant that he administers is a greater covenant. No longer are the laws written on tablets...instead, God promises to write the covenant on the hearts of His people. Join me in Hebrews 6-9 and worship our great High Priest! Key verses: Hebrews 6:12 so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises. Hebrews 7:28 For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness, but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever. Hebrews 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will establish with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and I will inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God and they will be my people. Hebrews 9:28 so also, after Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, to those who eagerly await him he will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation. All Scriptures are from the NET.…
