William Federer is a nationally known speaker, historian, author, and president of Amerisearch, Inc. He's the speaker on The American Minute daily broadcast.--In 1937, Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt didn't like the fact that the Supreme Court was not supporting all of his -New Deal- programs. Such programs were taking power away from citizens, local and state authorities and giving it to the federal government. For example, Roosevelt outlawed private ownership of gold and he took over factories and farms.--The Supreme Court was the -check and balance- against this trampling of people's rights. In response, Roosevelt wanted to make the Supreme Court a -rubber stamp- for his policies. This meant a showdown was about to take place. However, that never happened because a couple of Supreme Court justices died and he was able to appoint replacements that were sympathetic to his reforms. --It appears that a similar power grab is under way by the Biden-Harris administration. A press release from the Harris for President campaign said the following----That is why President Biden and I are calling on Congress to pass important reform--from imposing term limits for Justices' active service, to requiring Justices to comply with binding ethics rules just like every other federal judge. And finally, in our democracy, no one should be above the law so we must also insure that no former president has immunity for crimes committed while in the White House.---Review this broadcast where you'll learn from history why this call for reform is so troubling and hear how listeners feel about this issue as well.
