Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 10 Episode 41 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Sunday morning 11 August 2024.
Happy Birthday Racheli in Lami and sweet 16 to my dear cousin Janey in Sydney!
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent, where it is 19 degrees Celsius at 5am with strong gustily winds later this morning.
And at the Paris Olympic Games today: Ethiopian Tamirat Tola delivered a masterclass in solo front running to win the Olympic Men’s marathon in Paris overnight, as Eliud Kipchoge’s bid for a third gold went up in smoke.
Tola clocked an Olympic record of 2hr 06min 26sec for victory, finishing 21 seconds ahead of Belgium’s Bashir Abdi for silver and Kenya’s Benson Kipruto rounded out the podium a further 13sec back.
Meanwhile, on the sand in front of an illuminated Eiffel Tower, top-seeded Brazilian pair Ana Patricia Silva and Eduarda Santos won Olympic gold in the Women’s beach volleyball overnight after three tense sets in a bad-tempered game, beating the 7th-ranked Canadians.
There was never a dull moment, with frequent challenges from both sides, repeated booing from the vociferous Brazilian fans, and at one point a heated row between the four players across the net.
Play was halted while the players argued and gestured at each other, before the umpire waved a yellow card at both teams, and the venue’s DJ played John Lennon’s “Imagine” as the four players returned to their halves with reluctant smiles while the crowd sang along.
There were 39 gold medal events in Paris overnight in:
· Artistic swimming: Duet free routine medal final
· Athletics (track and field) climaxed with an all-finals day: Men’s marathon final; Men’s high jump final; Men’s 800m final; Women’s javelin throw final; W 100m hurdles final; M 5000m final; W 1500m final; M 4x400m relay final; W 4x400m relay final

Australian Head Coach Joe Schmidt said the first half onslaught had taken its toll on his side.
Later in Wellington - take a bow Los Pumas!
Argentina humbled the All Blacks with a bonus point 38-30 win, after outplaying and outscoring Scott Robertson’s men hands down.
In Rugby League: Bulldogs Captain Stephen Crichton has accused Dragons five-eighth Kyle Flanagan of biting him during their side’s clash last night.

“That was hard to watch and it’s hard evidence,” Meninga said.
In the Paris Olympic Games Women’s Football: Finally, the Americans received the elusive gold medal from FIFA President Gianni Infantino after USA 1-0 Brazil this morning.
