"John was a guy who loved his country, he loved his family. He gave his life to keep us safe." - Steve Sax

Welcome Steve Sax

We’re joined on the Starline by an author, speaker and broadcaster. 2 years ago his son was among five killed when a MV-22 Osprey crashed in a training accident. He’s a five-time All-Star, Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger Award Winner, two-time World Series Champion and most importantly dad. He formed the Captain John J. Sax family foundation is his honor. We welcome Steve Sax. Let’s go Beyond the Mic.

Steve, thank you for everything your son did and stood for. He was a Marine in the elite Purple Foxes but he was so much more. What’s one thing few people knew about him?

The Rockin' 8:

It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions, answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. How much did you celebrate when Angel Hernandez “retired”?

2. Which of the six critical elements from your book “Shift” is the most important to you?

3. Least favorite ballpark to play in?

4. Pitcher who gave you the most competitive at-bats?

5. Unsung place in Sacramento?

6. Least favorite of your own baseball cards?

7. Weirdest Cameo request you ever received?

8. Could you have hit a homer off of Babe Ruth?

The Impossible Question:

If you could tell your son one more thing, what would you say?

One Big Question:

You dad didn’t do things through words, but through his actions. Your life was initially through actions, but now through words. If you could tell people why supporting the Captain John J. Sax family foundation is important for them to do in just a minute, what would you say?

The Wrap:

He hated playing in Oakland, got the most competitive at-bats from John Dobson and he wants you to go to johnnyourhero.org to support the Captain John J. Sax family foundation. Steve Sax, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today.

And that my friends is Beyond the Mic.
