Sometimes you come across an idea so powerful that it completely shifts how you see the world. That’s exactly what happened when I read the book Subtract by Leidy Klotz. His work on the "untapped science of less" opened my eyes to a fundamental human bias: when we want to improve something—our lives, our businesses, our schedules—our immediate instinct is to add something new. We look for a new process, a new tool, a new commitment. But what if the most powerful solution is actually to subtract?

I am so excited to bring back one of my all-time favorite interviews with Leidy himself. We dive into why we’re hardwired to add, even to our own detriment, and how we can consciously start looking for things to remove to make life simpler and better. This conversation isn't just about decluttering; it's about revealing your best, most fulfilled life by carving away the things that aren’t serving you. This is an idea you won't be able to forget!

IN THIS EPISODE:

  • Addition Bias: Our instinct is to add to solve problems, even when subtracting is the smarter move.
  • Reveal, Don't Remove: Frame subtraction as revealing what truly matters, not as a loss.
  • Make Subtraction a Habit: Build prompts into your routine, like asking "What can I remove?" when planning your week.
  • Buy Back Your Time: Spending money on time-saving services is a powerful way to subtract tasks from your life.
